Wimbledon v Walsall Match Preview
It was the late, late show for Wimbledon in midweek, who went into the final minute of normal time against Accrington Stanley trailing by two goals at home, only to salvage a point through Ali Smith – and a 97th-minute belter from James Tilley.
The 2-2 draw with the Reds follows a 1-0 home defeat to Grimsby, in result which call into question the Dons’ reliability at Plough Lane, just as they’ve started to show signs of correcting their poor away form.
With that in mind, it’s difficult to get behind Johnnie Jackson’s side at odds-on, as they host a Walsall side themselves flying high in fourth, unbeaten in five.
Mat Sadler’s side are League Two’s joint-second top goalscorers, boosted by excellent acquisitions in wing-back Connor Barrett, from Fylde, and striker Nathan Lowe, on loan from Stoke.
In midfield, meanwhile, Ryan Stirk has struck up a real understanding with Jamie Jellis and Charlie Lakin, as the former holds the fort at the base to allow the latter two to push on with vigour.
That’s what they’ll be looking to do in the capital – and we think they’ll return to the Black Country with a point or three to show for their exertions.
