Australia v South Africa Match Preview
Australia have won this competition six times before and are chasing a magnificent seven. It’s difficult to see past them for this semi-final, even though talismanic captain Alyssa Healy is a major doubt because of a foot injury.
The world’s number one side just look so strong, as their past record suggests in this competition. They are just as formidable in 50-over and Test Match cricket too.
South Africa will be desperate for revenge having lost last February’s final in Cape Town, though it would be a seismic shock if they were to achieve it.
That’s reflected by the 1/6 on offer for a straight Australia win. I just don’t see the point in taking that, but I have set up an 11/8 four-fold via bet365’s bet builder section which starts with a victory for the green and golds.
That is an Aussie win, for their opener Beth Mooney to score 10 runs, for their left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux to take one wicket and for South African seamer Marizanne Kapp to also take one wicket.
Mooney has achieved that feat in three of four innings at this tournament so far, including scores of 43 not out and 40. Molineux has taken seven wickets in four matches, striking at least once in every match. Talismanic Kapp has taken four wickets so far, only failing to strike once in four appearances.
Let’s hope it’s more Beth Money than Beth Mooney
I’m going to stick with bet365 for the next two bets in this preview.
They have 11/10 on offer for any Australia batter to score a fifty in this Dubai showdown.
And they have also priced up opener Beth Mooney to score a fifty at 5/2, which is enticing.
The left-handed opener is in decent form, as aforementioned, and she has special memories of this match-up having scored 74 not out in the T20WC final victory against South Africa at Cape Town in February of last year. She was player-of-the-match.
The same price - 5/2 with BoyleSports - is available for South Africa opener and captain Laura Wolvaardt to top-score with the bat for her side. That’s a price I would be taking on the back of scores of 59 not out, 42 and 40 in three matches. She has top-scored in two of her side’s four matches so far.
And, finally, 5/1 with betfair on Annabel Sutherland to be Australia’s top bowler is worth serious consideration. The seam bowling all-rounder has taken seven wickets so far in the tournament and bowls at the death, which is clearly a plus when considering such bets.
