New Zealand vs England Cricket Tips, Predictions & Odds - 2nd ODI
Will Jackson
After New Zealand edged over the line in Mount Maunganui on Sunday, the one-day international series heads to Hamilton on Wednesday with England looking to level.
Harry Brook saved his side's blushes with an all-timer of a knock, making 135 out of a team total of 223, with only Jamie Overton making double figures before the Black Caps survived a scare to get home by four wickets.
Despite that, England head into the second ODI as favourites with UK betting sites.
Free Bets cricket expert, Will Jackson, has had a look at what we can expect from the second game.
New Zealand vs England Cricket Tips
Here are our cricket betting tips for the game in Hamilton.
Tip 1: Kane Williamson 29.5+, Joe Root 32.5+ - 9/4
On Sunday we had two of the best batters in the modern era, but they mustered two runs between them as others took centre stage.
Joe Root was one of the victims to the moving ball as England's top order collapsed, while Kane Williamson nicked off first ball.
Put simply, it's very unlikely that we'll see back-to-back failures from two greats and given Root in particular has been in such hot form this year, I've no doubt we will see them both return to form in this series.
Tip 2: Root to score 50, Buttler to hit a 6, Archer 2+ wickets - 13/2
There will be plenty of eyes on Jofra Archer on Wednesday as his Ashes preparation kicks up a notch with his return to white ball action.
Archer was rested from the T20 series and the opening ODI in order to manage his workload but he should be firing on all cylinders with the white ball, which is arguably his strongest suit.
New Zealand have three left-handers in the top four and Archer loves bowling at lefties, so I think he will have some success with the new ball.
Jos Buttler has been in great form since dropping the captaincy and after failing he should be back with a bang in Hamilton, although he does need the top order to lay a platform in order to maximise his ability.
Root will be crucial to that platform, and I'm pretty confident he will have ironed out any issues from Sunday's game.
Tip 3: New Zealand to win, England to hit the most sixes - 3/1
I can't really understand why England head into this game as pre-match favourites with sports betting sites, and after backing New Zealand in the opener, I'll be backing them again.
It's a cliche that they are underrated and more than the sum of their parts, but the latest odds prove it's still the case.
Yes England can produce an all-round, world-class performance out of nowhere, but there are too many moving parts at the moment and New Zealand look a settled and functional side.
England need their top order to fire to give themselves a chance, because their change bowlers don't look strong enough - Adil Rashid aside - to cause problems throughout the New Zealand innings, so while they had success with the new ball last time, as the innings goes on I think the Black Caps will improve.
In terms of sixes, that's what this England team is built on and whether it's a team effort or a stunning solo effort like we saw from Brook, there will be sixes galore.
