2024 Grand Slam of Darts – Groups
We take a closer look at the eight groups.
Group A - Luke Humphries, James Wade, Mickey Mansell, Rowby-John Rodriguez
Reigning champion, reigning world champion, current world number one and seemingly ever-present in the final stages of every PDC tournament, Luke Humphries shouldn’t have any problems getting out of Group A, priced at 2/5 with bet365 to finish on top of Wade, Mansell and Rodriguez.
James Wade is 10/3 with bet365 to top the standings – it’s worth noting that the “Machine” has only failed to get out of his group once in 16 attempts.
Group B - Danny Noppert, Martin Schindler, Cameron Menzies, Beau Greaves
This is one of the most competitive groups – Noppert, Schindler and Menzies can’t be split by bet365 and are all priced up at 9/4 to win Group B.
Noppert is the eighth seed in Wolverhampton so will feel he has the edge here, but Martin Schindler is the form man after a successful season on the European Tour.
Group C - Rob Cross, Peter Wright, Martin Lukeman, Leonard Gates
Cross (Evens with bet365 to win Group C) and Wright (15/8 with bet365 to win Group C) are regarded the safe bets to progress from Group C, but with both displaying chequered form in 2024, Martin Lukeman will fancy his chances in beating at least one of them.
Lukeman enjoyed a quarter-final run at the UK Open in the spring and has shown signs of life on the Players Championship Tour.
Group D - Dave Chisnall, Ross Smith, Ritchie Edhouse, Connor Scutt
This all-English group is headlined by former finalist Dave Chisnall from 2014, priced at 7/4 (alongside Ross Smith) to win Group D.
“Chizzy” is in good form at current, but has a patchy form at the Grand Slam of Darts, escaping his group just five times in 11 attempts.
Ritchie Edhouse shocked the tour by winning last month’s European Championship from nowhere, and his mates will be backing a 50/1 price with bet365 to back it up with a Grand Slam title.
Group E - Michael Smith, Mike De Decker, Jermaine Wattimena, Mensur Suljovic
This is the group where we are expecting a couple of surprises.
“Bully Boy” Smith is fancied at Evens with bet365 to win the group, but expect De Decker, Wattimena and the laborious Suljovic to ask a few questions.
Smith won this is 2022, but failed to get out of his group in 2023 and hasn’t sparkled in the major TV tournaments so far this season.
Group F - Dimitri Van den Bergh, Luke Littler, Keane Barry, Lourence Ilagan
Luke Littler heads up the Group F as a 1/3 fav with bet365 and it’s hard to see any of the other trio laying a glove on him.
Dimitri van den Bergh has the pedigree here with a semi-final and quarter-final run, but with the pressure relatively low in the group stages, this should allow Littler to flourish without dropping too many legs.
Group G - Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Ryan Joyce, Noa-Lynn van Leuven
Group G is all about MVG vs Gary Anderson.
Anderson is the man in form at the moment, and 5/4 is a great price for him to top the standings heading into the last 16.
Ryan Joyce has escaped his group once at the Grand Slam and Noa-Lynn van Leuven is making her debut in the event...
Group H - Stephen Bunting, Josh Rock, Gian van Veen, Wessel Nijman
News that Stephen Bunting enjoyed a new arrival to the family this week could well see him take his eyes off the ball heading to Wolverhampton.
Josh Rock has shown glimpses of brilliance in 2024, but his lack of consistency may hold him back in Group H.
Wessel Nijman at 5/2 with bet365 is as good a price as any for an outsider to sneak a top place in a group.

Luke Humphries to reach the final
A deep run for Humphries doesn’t really need explaining considering his recent form, but it’s worth noting two things that will work in his favour.
“Cool Hand” will avoid Luke Littler, Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen (the three players that make up the top four favourites alongside Humphries) until the final in Wolverhampton, paving the way for a pretty clear path for the world champion.
Also, best of 31 matches in the quarters, semis and final will favour one of the fittest and most durable players on the tour.
Mike De Decker to win Group E at 6/4 with bet365
De Decker showed his stripes earlier this year winning the World Grand Prix and has continued to average some monster numbers on the tour.
He has to get past Michael Smith, Jermaine Wattimena and Mensur Suljovic but the Belgian thrower is playing with enough confidence for that not to be an issue.
