Australian Open 3-Ball Golf Betting Tips

The DP World Tour is staying put in Australia for the opening swing this week.
After a compelling Australian PGA Championship last weekend where Elvis Smylie showed nerves of steel to pip Cam Smith to the title, the Australian Open will now be the main point of focus.
The Australian Open, which was co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour in 2022, has a decorated honours board.
Yes, Gary Player has lifted a record seven titles while Greg Norman is the most successful Australian with five wins to his name.
While the early swing of the DP World Tour is perhaps less chaotic than the closing stages, there will be a distinctly Aussie flavour in the field.
Earlier this week, I gave you the lowdown on what to expect, and this time, I have run the rule over the groups and provided some 3-ball betting tips, plus our best golf betting offers from the top online bookmakers.
Australian Open 3-Ball Golf Betting Tips
Check out my three selections for the opening round at Kingston Heath on Thursday - ideal for an 14/1 golf acca.
Min Woo Lee to beat Joaquin Niemann and Jordan Smith
A fan favourite, Min Woo Lee will be prepared to put on a show for the Victoria golfing enthusiasts.
A three-time winner on the DP World Tour, the early 2025 performance stats make for good reading, and he is ninth for Greens in Regulation (GIR) and eighth for Putts in Regulation (PIR).
Coming off a T15 at the Australian PGA Championship, Lee is in a good place. However, Joaquin Niemann has chalked up some impressive results over the past 12 months, including a T7 at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, and he’s the Australian Open reigning champion.
Jordan Smith is robust with his approach play, and this group has star quality.
But to kick off my 3-ball betting tips, I’m going with Lee to seize the advantage and better Smith and Niemann in Round 1.
Matthew Southgate to beat Oliver Lindell & Haydn Barron
Arguably one of the more unheralded groups this week, Oliver Lindell is a bit of an unknown quantity.
Currently 337th in the world rankings, the Finn did finish T24 at the Australian PGA Championship which perhaps should count for something, but this will only be his 10th career tournament.
Haydn Barron, meanwhile, was well off the pace at the Australian PGA Championship, and his stats make for dismal reading. Scrambling will be key this week, but Barron doesn’t strike me as someone who looks comfortable playing out of the rough.
Matthew Southgate, meanwhile, is coming off the back of a T15 at the Australian PGA Championship. If I’m to put my patriotic hat on, then he would be my tip to take the spoils in this group following the conclusion of Round 1.
Cam Smith to beat Elvis Smylie & Victor Perez
At first glance, this could be a 3-ball that produces plenty of birdies and sets the pace.
Smylie, 22, is one of the biggest talents Down Under, and the way he handled himself to pip Smith to the title last week showed maturity beyond his years.
Although his long game had a slight wobble, Smylie never relinquished the lead, but Smith will want to set the record straight.
Smith has areas of improvement with his putting, but Victor Perez will be hoping for better after a T34 at the Australian PGA Championship.
But after backing Smith in the outright market, I’m not going to deviate from him here in my 3-ball betting tips.
