Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Stars Cricket Betting Tips
Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Stars Preview
It tells you a lot about the form the Melbourne Stars are in that they’re 3/4 to win this fixture against the Thunder, with the loser departing from the tournament.
The winner goes on to face the loser of the Hobart v Sydney Sixers Qualifier clash in an effective semi-final.
If you read my preview of that particular fixture, you will have noted that my title tip are now the Stars, who are on a five-game winning streak. Everything is working ideally, be it with bat, ball in the field, although they will be missing Beau Webster because of Australian Test duty.
Now, I’d rather look elsewhere for value instead of taking that 3/4.
I have put together a bet365 bet builder double, available at 7/4. That for the Stars to win and for their side’s highest individual batting score to be over 52.5.
That over 52.5 leg has been cleared by the Stars in the last seven matches.
Paris is lovely at this time of year
Firstly, I’d be keen to take a look at Sydney Thunder all-rounder Chris Green’s Player Performance market with betfair. They have him at 5/6 to top 30.5 points. That’s one point per run, 20 points per wicket and 10 points per catch.
Green can contribute with his off-spin, the bat and in the field, so I’d be going over that 30.5.
It’s interesting when you compare markets between different companies. Bet365, for example, have him available at the same price to top 39.5 points. So the value is clearly there with betfair.
The Melbourne Stars have been led expertly with the ball in recent matches by seamer Mark Steketee, who has taken 12 wickets in their last three matches. But others have chipped in around him.
One of those being left-arm seamer Joel Paris, who has taken five wickets in his last two outings. He’s not a bowler with express pace, but he has plenty of skill. And that could work well at Engie Stadium, where the pitches can be quite slow.
He’s 6/4 with bet365 to take two or more wickets in the match.
bet365 provide us with a third punt for this cricket betting tips preview, which is a boosted 9/2 bet builder. That’s for the Stars to win, for them to hit most sixes and for their captain Marcus Stoinis to score 30 runs or more.
The Stars - mainly due to Glenn Maxwell - have David Warner’s Thunder covered on most sixes hit in the tournament and Stoinis has topped 30 three times in his last five matches.
I will finish by taking a flyer on a Sydney Thunder top bat bet.
The stats don’t back this one up at all, with 20-year-old up and comer Hugh Weigben posting scores of nine not out, 11, six and one not out in four knocks. The latter, he was at the crease when rain came against Sydney Sixers.
But even within those scores, he has shown the odd flash of quality.
He batted at three last game - in that Sixers’ washout - and PricedUp have him at 17/2 to top score for Thunder in this knockout clash. Even with lack of form, that price is of interest to me.
