Big Bash Preview
Sydney Sixers, Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat. They will all be teams high on the list for punters looking to back a title winner.
And the Sixers and the Heat currently lead the way in the BBL having both won two from two.
They’re in action on Boxing Day on opposite sides of Australia, with the Scorchers v Heat battle in Perth looking the most appetising clash. Sixers, meanwhile, face a Melbourne Stars side who are already cut adrift having lost their first three matches.
Sydney Sixers should win this one, and while I expected them to be a touch shorter than the 3/4 on offer with a host of firms including betfair, I wouldn’t be taking them as a single.
I will include them in a daily win double with Brisbane Heat, however, who are well placed to further dent Perth’s title quest. If the Heat do win, Perth will have lost three from their four outings. That double is on offer at 2.68/1 with BetGoodwin.
Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars
In terms of the Melbourne Stars, they desperately need Ben Duckett - their number one draft pick - to hit the ground running.
The England opener posted a golden duck on debut against the Adelaide Strikers on Friday, but I expect him to come good. I like him at 15/4 with betway - via their Player Props section - to score a fifty in this match.
William Hill are offering an enticing 11/2 through their #YourOdds selections on in-form Sydney bowlers Ben Dwarshuis and Akeal Hosein to take two or more wickets apiece.
Left-armer Dwarshuis has taken two in each of his first two games, while West Indian left-arm spinner Hosein has claimed five wickets in his last three T20s. He struck twice on debut for the Sixers against Sydney Thunder on Saturday and claimed the other three in a pair of appearances for the West Indies against Bangladesh earlier this month.
Perth Scorchers v Brisbane Heat
The Heat have built early momentum, the Scorchers are having to contend with an early wobble.
Now may well be the ideal time from Brisbane’s point of view to break a bit of a hoodoo. They have lost their last five matches against Perth at Optus.
Perth’s loss of pacer Jhye Richardson to the Australian Test team is a huge blow. He adds real bite to the guile of fellow seamers AJ Tye, Jason Behrendorff and Matt Kelly.
Boyle Sports are amongst a host of firms offering the champions Heat at 11/10 to win this one. That, to me, is definite value.
Having been axed from the Aussie Test team, Nathan McSweeney returned to domestic colours in style with an unbeaten 78 in Sunday’s win over Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba.
He looks quality, and I can see him getting on a roll. Let’s take a 12/1 shot on him to be named player of the match in this one, on offer with Paddy Power.
