Brighton v Crystal Palace Match Preview
With Brighton surging into a 2-0 lead at the King Power Stadium, it looked as if last Sunday’s clash with Leicester was only going to end with one outcome – an outcome that saw the Seagulls swoop to a first Premier League win in three attempts.
Only 11 minutes remained by the time Yankuba Minteh doubled the visitor’s advantage last Sunday and although that should have been the icing on the cake for Brighton, it only served as a wake up call to Leicester.
One that saw Jamie Vardy roll back the years with time ticking down and with this particular poacher managing to score one and make another within the last five minutes of the game, it meant a particularly good week for new Foxes boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
A good week for Van Nistelrooy, but not a great week for counterpart Fabian Hurzeler and with Brighton now collecting just two points from the last nine on offer, it also means the Seagulls have slid back down the table.
Going into this weekend’s Premier League schedule, The Amex outfit find themselves lying seventh in the table but had they held out at the King Power Stadium, they would be a single point behind Manchester City in fifth.
However, its nothing more than ifs and buts as now manager Hurzeler must prepare for his first taste of the clash that certainly is not a derby but is definitely a rivalry – that of course being the visit of Crystal Palace.
A visit that will see the Eagles make the short trip down the M23 having not lost any of their last four league matches and although three of those have ended in draws, there is a sense of improvement coming out of Selhurst Park.
Especially when you consider the opposition that Oliver Glasner’s men have earned a stalemate against in recent weeks. A draw at Aston Villa to go alongside home equality with Newcastle and Manchester City is not to be overlooked.
Nor is the fact that the Eagles have now only lost one of their last six and if they could turn solidity into something a bit more spectacular, then further distance is likely to be placed between themselves and the relegation zone.
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and with Brighton yet to taste defeat at home this season, I do not envisage Sunday being the day. However, Palace have not lost in their last three on the road and therefore, I am splitting the difference with a draw at odds of 3/1 with Betfred.
In addition to this, I am going to back the Seagulls to be ahead at the break only for the Eagles to claw them back come the final whistle. You can join me in backing a half-time home win and a full-time draw at odds of 16/1 with William Hill.
