David Montgomery Anytime Touchdown Scorer
The Colts have conceded the most red-zone attempts to opposing offences (40), with their rivals scoring touchdowns on 23 of those occasions. Notably, 23 of the 26 offensive touchdowns given up by the Colts have come from the red zone.
Indianapolis has allowed 10 rushing touchdowns this season, making David Montgomery a clear favourite to find the end zone in Week 12. Montgomery is a classic power back and has scored in eight of Detroit's ten games so far.
Last week, Montgomery recorded 15 carries for 75 yards and two touchdowns in a dominant 52-6 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Even in the Lions’ tighter 26-23 win over the Houston Texans in Week 10, Montgomery managed to score despite only gaining 32 rushing yards on 12 carries.
David Montgomery Over 54.5 Rushing Yards
David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs share responsibilities in the Lions’ backfield, but this matchup calls for a greater emphasis on Montgomery. The Colts don’t give up many big runs to the outside, but their defensive line struggles in the middle, making Montgomery the ideal choice.
Interestingly, the Colts rank last in the NFL for rushing attempts allowed (354) and are 28th in rushing yards conceded per game (143.1). This sets up Montgomery well to surpass his line in this contest. He has recorded at least 15 carries and 73 rushing yards in two of his last three games.
With their excellent offensive line, the Lions will aim to wear down the Colts’ defence. While Gibbs is more suited as a third-down back and excels at catching passes, Montgomery is likely to handle the majority of the workload against Indianapolis.
Anthony Richardson Over 0.5 Interceptions
The Detroit Lions are tied with the Houston Texans for the second-most interceptions in the NFL, having recorded 14 so far. Their matchup against the Colts presents an excellent opportunity to add to this impressive tally.
Given the likely scenario of playing catch-up for most of the game, the Colts will struggle to rely on their running game against a Lions defence that allows only 94.8 rushing yards per game (5th in the NFL). As a result, the Colts will need to put the game in Anthony Richardson’s hands.
Richardson, however, has struggled with accuracy. In seven appearances this season, he has thrown for 1,230 yards, five touchdowns, and seven interceptions, completing just 48.5% of his passes.
Last week, Richardson made a strong return after a two-game absence, helping secure a narrow victory over the Jets. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 272 yards and a touchdown while rushing ten times for 32 yards and two additional scores.
Replicating such a performance against the Lions will be a significant challenge. Detroit’s pass rush is formidable, and they’ve intercepted at least one pass in each of their ten games this season.
