Crystal Palace v Brentford Match Preview
Crystal Palace will look to continue their resurgence when they host Brentford at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Under Oliver Glasner, Palace have made themselves tough to beat, as they are undefeated in their past six outings in all competitions.
Brentford, on the other hand, will have been smarting from a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last weekend where they were outdone by two last-gasp strikes from Darwin Nunez.
There was, however, a spot of good news for the Bees earlier this week when Mikkel Damsgaard put pen to paper on a long-term contract extension, tying the midfielder down to the club until 2030.
A London Derby always provides at least a modicum of excitement, even if it is a mid-table affair.
Ahead of kick-off, I’ve rummaged through the markets and delivered a couple of picks to underline my Crystal Palace v Brentford predictions.
Crystal Palace to maintain the feel-good factor
Initially, there were huge concerns when Palace were winless until the last week of October, but such fears have been eviscerated.
The turnaround has been sensational, and they now find themselves 12th in the table looking up as opposed to nervously over their shoulders.
Indeed, just two defeats in their past 14 league games (W6, D6) speaks volumes about their progress, with only Arsenal (1) and Liverpool (0) experiencing fewer losses during that period.
Brentford’s 22 league games this term have been goal-fests by all accounts, producing 79 goals (40 for, 39 against) with only Tottenham (80) and Wolves (83) seeing their games have more.
Thomas Frank’s men are also targeting a league double over Palace, having beaten them 2-1 earlier in the season, but Palace have a stronghold in this fixture.
Therefore, for the first of my Crystal Palace Brentford predictions, I’m going with the Eagles to claim all three points & BTTS. Betfred has a tasty price of 13/5 that can be unlocked should you fancy it.
Jean-Philippe Mateta to use his head to good effect
A key cog in Palace’s revival over the past couple of months has been Jean-Philippe Mateta.
Yes, eight Premier League goals this term pays testament to that. He’s in a bit of a purple patch at the moment, scoring in each of his past three league outings, including a late equaliser at home to Chelsea.
The Frenchman has been potent, but while the majority of his 32 career league goals for Palace have come via his right foot, he’s not necessarily known for his aerial prowess.
He’s yet to score a headed league goal this term, but perhaps that could change this weekend.
To wrap up my Crystal Palace Brentford predictions, I’m leaning into the special served up by bet365 for Mateta to score a header, which has a sumptuous price of 17/2 accompanying it.
