Crystal Palace and Millwall will square off in what could be a feisty clash at Selhurst Park in the FA Cup Fifth Round on Saturday.
One of four ties taking place that day, there will be no love lost in this South London Derby.
The Eagles warmed up for this game with an emphatic 4-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League in midweek, and they appear to be in a good spot under Oliver Glasner’s tutelage.
Millwall’s season, however, is in danger of fizzling out as they are currently ensconced in mid-table in the Championship, although they were 1-0 victors last time out against Derby.
On the injury front, Palace defender Marc Guehi required treatment on a knee problem sustained against Villa, but it is hoped he will be passed fit to face the Lions.
Ahead of this last-16 tie, I’ve foraged around the betting markets and handpicked a couple of tips to accompany my Crystal Palace Millwall predictions.
Crystal Palace to put their names in the hat for quarter-finals
The beauty of the FA Cup is the penchant the competition has for less heralded teams to claim big scalps.
Although Palace and Millwall have had relatively similar seasons judging by their respective positions in the Premier League and the Championship, both sides have one thing in common - neither are yet to lift the FA Cup.
Palace have come close a couple of times, most recently against Manchester United in 2016, but ultimately succumbed in extra-time, while the Red Devils thrashed Millwall 3-0 in the Final in 2004.
The lunchtime kick-off between Palace and Milwall will represent the eighth time these two sides have faced each other in England’s oldest domestic competition.
Millwall have the edge in that regard, winning four of the seven ties, but Palace edged through in their previous FA Cup clash 2-1.
Although the Lions have kept a clean sheet in their previous FA Cup games, the Palace haven’t exited at this stage of the competition since a 2-1 reverse in 2015 against Liverpool.
I’m not expecting an upset, however, it could be tight. For the first of my picks, I’m going with Palace to prevail & BTTS which is trading at 3/1 with Betano.
Lions to put Palace through the wringer
Wembley at this point may still seem like a distant prospect, but there is plenty on the line this weekend.
To put some context on the history of this fixture, this will be the 100th time Palace and Millwall will go up against each other.
The Lions have gone five games against Palace without a win (D3, L2), but I think they will roll their sleeves up and give it a good go.
Of course, the TV money is an added incentive, and Millwall could give Palace a scare.
