It’s down to the final four in the football event at the Paris Olympics, with hosts France still well in the running for gold after beating Argentina last week.
The hosts face Egypt in the second semi-final on Monday, while Morocco take on Euro 2024 champions Spain in the other semi-final, with the winners set for a place in the gold medal match on Friday.

France to win to nil
Right from the start of this tournament, I have backed France to win and do it impressively. They have named a strong squad in a clear attempt to go all the way, and so far they have been really impressive, scoring eight goals and conceding none.
They beat who I think were the next best team, Argentina, 1-0 on Friday and should be confident of making their way through to Friday’s final. Egypt have had their moments and beat Spain in the group stages but they needed penalties to get past Paruguay.
Morocco to win and BTTS
This one would clearly be something of a shock if it came off, but Morocco have been impressive so far. They have two very decent scalps in USA (beating them 4-0 in the quarter-finals) and Argentina and have scored 10 goals in total so far. I think this could be an entertaining game.
Spain have scored nine goals themselves but have conceded four, so there should be a few goals but I just fancy Morocco to come out on top.

Under 2.5 goals
France have been very frugal so far in this tournament, keeping clean sheets in each of their four games to date. I think that will continue, and am expecting a very professional performance in this game. A 1-0 or 2-0 win is my best guess, but with plenty left in the tank for Friday’s final.
France to win
There’s no doubt about it, I think France will go all the way and win gold on Friday. They must get past Egypt before facing either Spain or Morocco in the final, but I think they had their hardest test against Argentina last week and this game should be a more routine win.
Jean-Philippe Mateta to score
Mateta has been a regular tip of ours throughout the tournament, and I was initially disappointed with his slow start. However he scored the winner against Argentina and was also on target against New Zealand, and I think he can make it three in three to fire France to Friday’s final.
