To signify how congested the English football calendar has now become, the second Carabao Cup semi-final first leg is played the night before this season’s FA Cup Third Round gets underway at Goodison Park.

However, there are no points up for grabs at the weekend, only cup progress and although Peterborough are largely out of sorts within the confines of this season’s League One, the Posh will still be confident of giving their Premier League hosts a bloody nose.
Especially as Posh manager Darren Ferguson has arguably nothing to lose at this stage of his fourth stint in charge of the East Anglian club and with this outfit usually in and around the playoff places, they currently find themselves a lot closer to the relegation zone instead.
Like Everton, Peterborough have not won any of their last five league outings. Unlike Everton’s three points from the last 15 on offer, the team that sit two tiers below them have only collected a single point after a recent 2-2 draw at Burton.
But with this being the greatest cup competition in the world, even if the powerbrokers do its best to make sure it no longer is, the thought of league form before kickoff will be of no thought of all and that is where the romance usually happens.
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and because Everton cannot hit a barn door lately, I think this has all the hallmarks of an upset and with that in mind, I am backing the Peterborough to avoid defeat in 90 minutes at odds of 13/5 with betfair.
