Fulham v Ipswich Match Preview
Fulham will look to burst Ipswich’s bubble when they host the Premier League strugglers on Sunday afternoon.
An intriguing appetiser before Liverpool v Manchester United later in the day, this game also represents two sides with very differing fortunes.
Ipswich may be in good spirits after ending 2024 with a comfortable 2-0 win over Chelsea, but their relegation fears haven’t been alleviated.
Currently 18th in the table, Kieran McKenna’s charges need to continue to pick up as many points as possible. 35+ come May could be enough to keep them on the right side of the cut line and secure their top-flight status for another season.
Fulham, on the other hand, are targeting the European spots, but they have been the draw specialists of late.
Certainly, four draws in their past five league outings would suggest so. That said, let’s not forget that run saw them hold Liverpool and Arsenal, and like Ipswich, they also saw off Chelsea.
But will Ipswich’s mini revival continue? I’ve delved into the betting markets and I’ve supplied a couple of tips to underline my Fulham Ipswich predictions.
Honours even at Craven Cottage
Against Chelsea, Ipswich looked fluid and they caught the visitors on the break.
Liam Delap, in particular, posed problems for the Blues backline and stole the show, but then again the Tractor Boys have only netted 18 times in the league this term.
Fulham, on the other hand, have scored 10 more than Ipswich and conceded eight fewer, but they need to start turning draws into wins if they want to clinch a Europa League or even Champions League berth.
In the corresponding fixture back in August, Fulham grabbed a point at Portman Road in a 1-1 draw after trailing.
Of the past three meetings, the draw has been the most popular result. I fancy the points to be shared once again and a draw is currently trading at an inviting 16/5 with William Hill.
A repeat result on the cards?
In the Premier League, there is no such thing as home bankers anymore.
I have found that to be the case this season with plenty of shock results thrown in.
What is most noticeable is that Fulham haven’t had any problems engineering chances, fashioning on average 1.84 per game compared to the 1.42 created by Ipswich.
Marco Silva has made his side a well-drilled unit, but Ipswich will look to break them on the counter. McKenna is all too aware that his side is likely to see less of the ball.
As mentioned, two of the past three clashes have ended in the points shared (1-1).
I don’t always tend to gravitate towards the Correct Score, but a 1-1 outcome has caught my eye. Paddy Power has obliged with a juicy 7/1 price.
