Hoffenheim v Tottenham Match Preview
Premier League results are going from bad to worse for Spurs, with the 3-2 defeat to Everton - possibly a flattering scoreline - the latest in a damaging string of results.
There have been plenty of injuries to Postecoglou's squad, but it remains expensively-assembled and there is no doubt they are under acheiving this season which means the pressure is inevitably rising on the Australian manager.
The one thing in his advantage is that they are still in all three cups - they are leading at half-time of the Carabao Cup semi-finals, they are in the fourth round of the FA Cup and they are in line to progress into the next stage of the Europa League.
However they remain just outside the automatic qualification spots on goal difference, and a win away at Hoffenheim on Thursday would be a massive boost for Postecoglou as he seeks to boost his standing as Spurs manager with a trophy this season.
You would expect the importance of these cup runs to be reflected in team selection as the season goes on, so while Spurs have been happy to rotate in the Europa League in this campaign, I think we are less likely to see that continue as we go on.
I do think they will be desperate to avoid any more fixture pile-up with the injury problems they have, so finishing in the top eight is crucial, and with a home game to come against Elfsborg to come after this Hoffenheim game, that's two sides in the lower part of the table to play so they should be confident.
I'm going to start with a Spurs win and both teams to score at 5/2 with betfair as my first tip. I think they will put out a decent side but they have real issues at the back which cannot be ignored as evidenced with the seven goals they have conceded in six European games this season.
Richarlison is someone I would be looking towards in the goalscoring markets at 6/1 with BoyleSports to open the scoring.
The Brazilian scored late on against Everton and has slowly been working his way back from injury and with Dominic Solanke injured, is likely to have a huge role to play between now and the end of the season so minutes will be huge, even if he doesn't play the full 90.
I don't expect much from Hoffenheim. They aren't just struggling in the Europa League but are just three points clear of relegation in the Bundesliga too, so they are there to be attacked by Spurs.
