India v England Preview
This series has proved just how big a powerhouse India are in white ball cricket. The T20 world champions are not at full strength, but they have brushed England aside to date, giving them a mountain to climb in order to turn the series around.
England were better in Saturday’s second game, almost defending a 166-target. Having had the hosts 78-5 and 126-7, they should really have squared things up at 1-1.
Alas, no, and now you would have to expect India to wrap things up.
Instead of taking the 4/9 on an outright India win, I’m quite taken by betway’s 17/10 on them to win and for there to be over 0.5 run outs in the match. There’s been one run out in each of the first two fixtures - incidentally, both England players. That selection is available via their #Pre-Built bets section.
Let’s hope Varun stays on the Chak attack
Before I get to India spinner Varun Chakravarthy, I will take a look at a pair of England seamers.
First of all, Jofra Archer, who has taken three wickets in the first two matches, though was very expensive in game two by conceding 60 runs in his four overs.
However, bet365’s 1/1 for him to post over 20.5 points on the player performance market is worth siding with in my opinion. That’s 20 points a wicket, 10 per catch and one per run.
And the way England are, there’s a very good chance he will bat down the order. He has done in the first two encounters, posting 12 in each.
There’s a very good argument to suggest that Brydon Carse has been England’s player of the winter, despite the heroics of the likes of Harry Brook and Joe Root.
Carse excelled with the ball in Pakistan and, particularly, New Zealand and impressed with 3-29 in Chennai on Saturday.
Just looking down bet365’s bowler wickets market, his price to take two or more wickets in the match stood out like a sore thumb. They have him at 3/1 to achieve that feat, which is surely good value.
Experienced Chakravarthy is having a super series, taking five wickets in two matches so far; three in the first and two in the second.
He brought us home a short-priced winner on him to take two wickets on Saturday, and I see no reason to divert away from him given his excellent form has been ongoing for a while now.
In his last five white ball matches for club (Tamil Nadu) and country, dating back to the start of January, he has taken 18 wickets, including a pair of 50-over five-wicket hauls.
Paddy Power have him at 10/3 to be India’s top bowler in the match, which I like.
Finally, a 20/1 betfair #OddsBoost for you. That’s for both wicketkeepers to take a catch and for either of them to score the most runs in the match. That’s for both teams combined. So, for example, Phil Salt top-scores, he would have to usurp the Indian batters as well as England’s.
Now, Salt and Sanju Samson have taken the gloves in the early stages of the series and each have taken a catch in the opening two fixtures. They have been quiet with the bat, but I don’t expect that to continue for too much longer. Hopefully it comes in Rajkot.
