Jaguars v Patriots Over 41.5 Points
It’s Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season, and both Jacksonville and New England find themselves in difficult positions. The Patriots have lost five straight games since their surprise victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, while the Jaguars secured their only win of the season in Week 5, narrowly defeating the Indianapolis Colts 37-34.
Jacksonville’s struggles continued in Week 6, with a 35-16 loss to the Chicago Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Jaguars' defence has been dreadful, ranking 31st in points allowed (29.7 per game) and last in the league for passing yards allowed (276.7 per game).
The Jags have conceded 34 or more points in three of their last four games, with each of these matchups seeing at least 44 total points. Similarly, three of the Patriots’ last five games have surpassed 41 points, and New England now ranks 21st in the NFL for points allowed (23.8 per game), conceding 228.5 passing yards (24th) and 130.3 rushing yards (19th).
Given both teams' defensive struggles, I expect a lot of movement on the field. That’s why I’m kicking off my Jaguars vs Patriots tips by backing Over 41.5 Points.
Drake Maye Over 199.5 Passing Yards
Rookie quarterback Drake Maye made his first NFL start last week during the Patriots' 41-21 home loss to the Houston Texans. Maye threw for 243 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
It was a challenging day in the office for the No. 3 pick from the 2024 NFL Draft, but the upcoming NFL London matchup presents a more favourable opportunity. As I mentioned, the Jaguars’ passing defence has been poor this season.
Running back Rhamondre Stevenson has not practised all week after missing the Texans game due to a foot injury, meaning the Patriots will likely rely heavily on Maye’s arm. I expect the talented rookie to step up and deliver in this promising matchup.
Drake Maye Over 0.5 Passing Touchdowns
The Jaguars have given up an alarming 14 passing touchdowns, the most in the NFL this season. After throwing three touchdowns against the Texans, Drake Maye is poised to throw at least one more against Jacksonville’s struggling defence.
The Jags rank 31st in the league for blitzes per dropback (17.3%) and 23rd in quarterback pressures (18.5%). Their pass rush has been a major letdown, giving Maye a solid chance to shine in London this Sunday.
