Lions v Bears Under 48.5 Points
The Chicago Bears are in freefall, having endured five consecutive defeats while managing just 73 points during that stretch. Only one of those games saw the total points exceed 39. Most recently, the Bears fell to the Minnesota Vikings 30-27 in overtime.
Chicago relies heavily on its defence, conceding only 19.7 points per game (8th in the NFL) but struggling offensively, scoring just 20.1 points on average (22nd). The Bears are likely to face significant challenges against the Lions, who boast one of the strongest defensive units in the league.
Detroit allows just 16.6 points per game (2nd) and restricts opponents to 94.9 rushing yards (5th), though they give up 227.2 passing yards (25th). On a nine-game winning streak, the Lions have limited opponents to 14 points or fewer in four of their last five matches.
Following a 52-6 demolition of the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11, Detroit secured a 24-6 victory over the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday. The Lions' defence held the Colts to just 268 total yards and a pair of field goals, with Indianapolis converting only three of 12 third-down attempts.
Detroit leads the NFL in third-down conversion defence (29.8%) and is second in red-zone defence (40.0%). Meanwhile, the Bears rank sixth in defensive third-down percentage (34.1%) and third in red-zone defence (41.0%).
Jahmyr Gibbs Over 74.5 Rushing Yards
David Montgomery sustained a shoulder injury last Sunday, prompting the Lions to lean heavily on Jahmyr Gibbs, who dominated the Colts with 90 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. While Montgomery is expected to be available for Thursday’s game, the short recovery period means the Lions will likely continue to rely on Gibbs.
To maintain their winning streak, Detroit will need to exploit Chicago’s weaknesses in run defence. The Bears concede an average of 129.7 rushing yards per game (20th in the NFL) and 4.8 yards per carry (tied 26th). Last week, they allowed Aaron Jones to rush for 106 yards in their narrow loss to Minnesota.
Jahmyr Gibbs leads the Lions with 154 carries and 886 rushing yards. Though he has been sharing responsibilities with Montgomery, Gibbs’ efficiency has stood out, with Montgomery managing just eight carries for 37 yards and a touchdown before his injury last week.
Averaging an impressive 5.7 yards per carry, Gibbs has recorded at least 63 rushing yards in ten consecutive games. With an increased role in this matchup, he is well-positioned to comfortably surpass the 74.5-yard mark.
Jahmyr Gibbs Anytime Touchdown Scorer
Gibbs is a versatile running back who excels at running routes and catching passes out of the backfield. With 11 touchdowns already this season, he’s the clear favourite to find the end zone in Week 13.
As mentioned earlier, Gibbs scored twice on the ground in last week’s clash against Indianapolis. The No. 12 pick from the 2023 NFL Draft has found the end zone in all but one of his last six games.
The Bears have conceded 21 offensive touchdowns this season, including 12 on the ground. With David Montgomery dealing with a shoulder injury, Gibbs is well-positioned for another impressive showing.
