Lions v Packers Under 51.5 Points
Green Bay faces Detroit for the second time this season, having lost 24-14 to the Lions at Lambeau Field in Week 9. Detroit covered the 2.5-point spread, and the game stayed under the 48.5-point total.
Interestingly, despite the loss, the Packers outgained the Lions 411-261 in total yards. However, Detroit won the turnover battle 1-0, with Kerby Joseph’s pick-six proving pivotal. The Packers averaged 6.0 yards per carry and 7.0 yards per pass but struggled on key plays, going just 3-for-12 on third downs and 1-for-4 in the red zone.
The Lions have excelled on both sides of the ball throughout the season. They average 31.9 points per game (1st in the NFL) while conceding just 16.9 points (2nd). Detroit ranks fifth in rushing yards allowed per game (93.5) and 25th in passing yards allowed (226.8), but they lead the league in opposing adjusted yards per pass attempt (5.7).
Detroit has held opponents to 20 or fewer points in five of their last six games. Meanwhile, Green Bay has restricted their last three opponents to under 20 points. The Packers rank eighth in scoring offense (26.5 points per game) and ninth in scoring defense (20.0). They allow 106.6 rushing yards (8th) and 217.3 passing yards per game (17th).
Therefore, we’ll kick off our Lions v Packers tips with a pick on the under. Both divisional rivals know each other well and are capable of delivering solid defensive performances. Notably, four of their last five meetings have produced totals of 51 points or fewer.
Brandon McManus Over 6.5 Kicking Points
Brandon McManus contributed six points against the Lions in Week 9, converting two of his three field-goal attempts. He did not have an opportunity for extra points as the Packers opted for a two-point conversion after their lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
As highlighted earlier, the Lions’ defense has been outstanding this season. They lead the NFL in opponent third-down percentage (31.7%) and are second in opponent red-zone percentage (41.9%).
Given this, the Packers are likely to rely on McManus’ accuracy again. Detroit has conceded at least two field goals in four of their last five games.
McManus has been dependable this season, going 10-for-11 on field-goal attempts and a perfect 16-for-16 on extra-point tries across six games. Last week, in the Packers’ 30-17 win over the Miami Dolphins, McManus made all three of his field-goal attempts and converted three extra points.
Amon-Ra St. Brown Anytime Touchdown Scorer
Amon-Ra St. Brown has been quiet in the scoring department over the past two games, following an impressive streak of eight consecutive outings with a touchdown. He remains the Lions’ most reliable target, leading the team in targets (92), receptions (76), receiving yards (820), and receiving touchdowns (9).
St. Brown has seen at least seven targets in each of his last five games. Last week, he recorded five catches for 73 yards in Detroit’s 23-20 victory over the Chicago Bears. In the Week 9 matchup against the Packers, St. Brown had seven receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown.
The Packers have conceded 26 offensive touchdowns this season, 16 of which have come through the air. Ranked 20th in the league in red-zone defense (59.0%), Green Bay presents a prime opportunity for St. Brown to rediscover his scoring form.
