Manchester United v Southampton Match Preview
I must admit, I have really enjoyed the Manchester United games they have played under Ruben Amorim.
The former Sporting Lisbon manager clearly has a defined style of play and it's been intriguing to see how he has implemented that straight away, with the last two games probably being the best example of that.
I don't think it is a coincidence that their best two performances - the draw against Liverpool followed by penalty shootout win with 10 men against Arsenal in the FA Cup - have come in the last two games, when he has finally had time to work with his players on the training ground after a hectic period of midweek matches.
However I also don't think it is a coincidence that they have performed against two good teams. If you add that to the win over Manchester City, the best three performances have come against arguably the best three sides in the league - so can they adapt their performances against teams they are expected to beat, such as Southampton?
Nevertheless, their recent games have been thrilling and everything a neutral would want in a game of football with goals, drama, physicality and technical excellence.
It's fair to say we shouldn't expect much from Southampton who are on course to go down as one of the worst Premier League teams of all time, so can Manchester United start building some momentum?
They are without a win in the league since December 15 though, and down in 13th place so it might not be a walkover, but it will be really interesting to see if they can maintain their recent intensity levels because if they do, they should be able to get a comfortable win.
The only thing is, it's hard to see where the goals are coming from with Rasmus Hojlund still not totally convincing in front of goal and aside from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo, there is still a lack of creativity in the likely XI.
To start off my betting tips, I'm going to side with a Manchester United win and under 3.5 goals at 5/4 with Betway. The lack of goals would have me siding with a fairly narrow win to nil, but Southampton have been so poor that it almost counts as an extra goal on top of that, so a 3-0 win would be about right.
I'm also going to back Fernandes to get a goal and an assist at 8/1 with BoyleSports. He's been heavily criticised in the past for his leadership, but I think there have been some really good signs of late and his goal against Arsenal was a cracker.
He was also the best player on the pitch against Liverpool, so he has a big part to play and I think he will revel in it.
