Nottingham Forest v Aston Villa Match Preview
Nottingham Forest host Aston Villa on Saturday evening in what could be an intriguing Premier League clash.
After a stunning 3-2 win away to Manchester United last weekend, Forest, who are fifth in the table, are just above Villa (sixth) and ahead by virtue of goal difference.
Villa, in the meantime, have recovered from their November woes where they went five matches in all competitions without a win.
December has already been markedly better with back-to-back league victories over Brentford and Southampton, and a 3-2 win in midweek away to RB Leipzig has inched them closer to automatic qualification for the Champions League Round of 16.
How do Villa stop Chris Wood? With 10 Premier League goals and counting, Wood is in the mix for the Golden Boot, even though he has Cole Palmer (11), Mo Salah and Erling Haaland in front of him (both 13).
I’ve got the lowdown on this Midlands derby. I’ve provided a match preview and my Nottingham Forest v Aston Villa predictions have been based on findings from the betting markets.
Forest to eke out a point
Forest continue to surprise everyone, but under Nuno Santo, they are a well-drilled unit.
Of course, Wood has been the star man, and he looks comfortable in the Premier League.
Forest’s win over United was one for the books. Indeed, Santo created history by becoming the first manager to beat the Red Devils home and away in his first two league games against them in 114 years.
Also, he has now won away at Liverpool and United in the same season, something no manager had previously experienced in charge of Forest.
A win away to Villa would see Forest climb into the top four at Manchester City’s expense, although that may only be for 24 hours given City have the small matter of a Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon.
Villa look a bit more assured, but there isn’t much separating the two teams in the table.
On the pitch, I think that could be reflected in a draw, and Betfred is offering a decent price of 5/2 for that outcome.
Don’t expect a high-scoring encounter
Villa have shaded recent meetings with two wins from their past four clashes with Forest, while the away side have won once.
In three of the past four games, the Over 2.5 goals line hasn’t been hit which could provide a clue.
Although Villa won 4-2 in the previous clash at Villa Park last term, that seemed to buck the trend.
To wrap up my tips, I’m going for a low-scoring draw, but that’s not to say it will be turgid. I have been bold and opted for there to be Under 0.5 goals, and there is value in this with the 10/1 price served up by bet365.
