Liverpool v Arsenal Match Preview
I am a bit surprised the odds are so close in this match, as the two sides will be at very different stages of their pre-season. Yes they’re both one game into the tour, but Mikel Arteta has more experienced players available to him and players returning, which to me marks them out as favourites.
They have already beaten Manchester United on this trip with Gabriel, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli contributing in the game after returning from international duty so I would expect them to get more game time here.
Arne Slot on the other hand remains depleted, while Curtis Jones is a further absentee after he was forced off with an injury in their win over Real Betis.
It remains to be seen whether new signing Riccardo Calafiori will feature, but otherwise I expect a pretty much full strength side to feature for the Gunners, while Mo Salah on the other side means Liverpool are always in the game. I just don’t see them having enough to beat Arsenal this time round, but they will have their moments in a game in which I expect the two sides to be split by just a goal.
Manchester United v Real Betis Match Preview
The rebuild continues apace off the pitch but it is still quite hard to know what to expect from Manchester United at this stage of the season, even with the Community Shield just over a week away.
There has been little to shout about in the friendlies they have played so far and with so many absent players, I’m not sure how much we can read into these games. New signing Lenny Yoro is now on the sidelines and Rasmus Hojlund won’t feature for the rest of the tour, meaning they are pretty much down to the bare bones.
However with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford in attack, I think they still have a couple of players with a point to prove.
I don’t think we’re in for a classic here. There were some good signs despite the defeat to Arsenal but with four goals scored in three games so far - and three goals conceded - I am expecting another low-scorer. I think they’ll edge a tight game by a goal or two.
