Rangers v Celtic Match Preview
There have always been gaps between Rangers and Celtic and vice versa and although there were once divisional distance between the two rivals a decade or so ago, the gap in the same league has never felt as big as this.
Not only because of the 14-point margin that Celtic take to Ibrox on Thursday but also because their nearest rivals seem like once again their own house is not currently in any form of operational order.
Rangers have toiled in the league under manager Philippe Clement and for every dropped point that the Belgian boss oversees, the decision to award him a new contract in the summer seems all the more confusing.
Perhaps not the opportunity to allow Clement to extend his stay in the blue half of Glasgow but more the fact that a combination of lack of funds and poor recruitment has meant this Rangers are far from firing on all cylinders right now.
A stark contrast to the team that reached a Europa League final just a couple of years ago, a stark contrast to the team that they begrudgingly share a city with and with the title race already all but run, they do not share the mantle of title challengers.
The only challenge for Celtic is Celtic themselves and with Brendan Rodgers managing to navigate any rare moments of internal or external strife, the Hoops are already planning title celebrations at the end of the season.
Preparations that are far from premature because not only have Celtic gone through the first 18 league games of this current Scottish Premiership season unbeaten, but they have conceded just four goals in the process.
A process that has turned this season into nothing more than a procession and although Kasper Schmeichel arrived at Celtic Park to much fanfare, they could not even play the Danish goalkeeper or any other shot stopper and still not break a sweat.
Admittedly, they did have to break a sweat in the recent Premier Sports Cup final as they eventually beat Rangers on penalties but a one-off game in the context of silverware should not be put forward as evidence to the jury when it comes to Scottish Premiership matters.
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and because Rangers put three past Celtic in that game, I do think they will score at home but even that will not be enough. The away win and both teams to score is priced at 3/1 with StarSports and that is a good enough price for me.
In addition to this, this is a game that has been known to offer plenty of goals in the past and I am going to start 2025 with a bang. You can back over 5.5 total goals at odds of 23/2 with Unibet, and this should be enough to pique your Ibrox interest.
