Denver Broncos -2.5
The Denver Broncos have had a mixed season so far, winning three of their first six games and posting a 4-2 record against the spread. Their three-game winning streak, however, was broken last week with a 23-16 home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
I expect the Broncos to regain momentum in Week 7 as they take on the struggling Saints, who are currently on a four-game losing streak. New Orleans suffered a heavy 51-27 home defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.
The Saints have a lengthy injury list, with 16 players sidelined, including quarterback Derek Carr (oblique) and wide receivers Chris Olave (concussion) and Rashid Shaheed (knee). Running back Alvin Kamara is also questionable due to a hand injury.
With Carr out, rookie Spencer Rattler made his NFL debut last week, completing just 22 of 40 pass attempts for 243 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Now, he faces one of the league’s strongest passing defences.
The Broncos concede only 170.2 passing yards per game (5th in the NFL) and allow just 9.3 yards per pass completion (2nd). They have also tallied 22 sacks (2nd) and 36 tackles for loss (5th). Denver looks set to secure the win on the back of their defensive strength, even with cornerback Pat Surtain II out due to a concussion.
Just 24 hours ago, Denver was favoured by 1.5 points, but now the Broncos are giving up 2.5 points on the road.
Bo Nix Over 190.5 Passing Yards
The Saints’ pass defence has struggled this season, allowing 262.2 passing yards per game (29th) and 11.6 yards per pass completion (26th). Although New Orleans managed to intercept Baker Mayfield three times last week, the Buccaneers’ QB still threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns.
Given this, it’s likely that Bo Nix will surpass his yardage line in Week 7. At 24, Nix isn’t your typical rookie, having thrown for at least 206 yards in four of his last five games.
Last week, Nix logged 216 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception against the Chargers—a team that is arguably stronger defensively than the Saints.
Courtland Sutton Over 46.5 Yards
Courtland Sutton leads the Broncos’ receiving corps in targets (47), receptions (21), receiving yards (277), and first-down receptions (16). Bo Nix will likely rely on his favourite target whenever possible, making Sutton well-positioned to surpass a 46.5-yard line in this favourable matchup.
Sutton has recorded at least 53 receiving yards in three of his last four games, including last week, when he posted four receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers in a tough contest.
