Denver Broncos -1.5
The Denver Broncos have had a mixed start to the season, winning three of their first six games while posting a 4-2 record against the spread. Their three-game winning streak came to an end last week with a 23-16 home defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers.
I anticipate the Broncos will get back on track in Week 7 when they face the struggling Saints, who are on a four-game losing streak. New Orleans was handed a heavy 51-27 home loss by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6.
The Saints have an extensive injury list with 16 players sidelined, including quarterback Derek Carr (oblique) and wide receivers Chris Olave (concussion) and Rashid Shaheed (knee). Running back Alvin Kamara is questionable due to a hand injury.
With Carr unavailable, rookie Spencer Rattler made his NFL debut last week. Rattler completed just 22 of his 40 pass attempts, accumulating 243 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. He’ll now face one of the league’s top passing defences.
The Broncos allow only 170.2 passing yards per game (5th in the NFL) and just 9.3 yards per pass completion (2nd). They’ve also recorded 22 sacks (2nd) and 36 tackles for loss (5th). Denver is poised to secure the win on the strength of its defence, even with cornerback Pat Surtain II sidelined due to a concussion.
Bo Nix Over 184.5 Passing Yards
The Saints’ pass defence has struggled this season, allowing 262.2 passing yards per game (29th) and 11.6 yards per pass completion (26th). Although New Orleans intercepted Baker Mayfield three times last week, the Buccaneers’ QB still threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns.
This makes it likely that Bo Nix will surpass his yardage line in Week 7. Nix, a 24-year-old rookie, isn’t your typical newcomer—he has thrown for at least 206 yards in four of his last five games.
Last week, Nix posted 216 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception against the Chargers, a team arguably stronger defensively than the Saints.
Courtland Sutton Over 46.5 Yards
Courtland Sutton leads the Broncos receiving corps, ranking first in targets (47), receptions (21), receiving yards (277), and first-down receptions (16). Bo Nix will be looking for his favourite target whenever possible, so Sutton is well-positioned to surpass a line of 46.5 yards in this favourable matchup.
Sutton has logged at least 53 receiving yards in three of his last four games, including last week, where he recorded four receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown against the Chargers in a challenging matchup.
