Hearts v Rangers Match Preview
It has all been a bit chaotic on the blue side of Glasgow this summer, with Rangers going through another turbulent spell with all sorts of problems going on in their squad.
Philippe Clement has not messed about in overseeing a changeover in their squad. He has been told he needs to sell players in order to strengthen his squad, so the likes of Connor Goldson has left the club, while Todd Cantwell is also certain to depart.
They’ve also endured a pretty miserable pre-season in terms of results, with defeats to Manchester United and Birmingham, along with an entertaining draw against Union Berlin.
All in all, it is pretty hard to gauge where Gers will start the season and in what state they will be in, and a good recent record against the Jambos will surely count in their favour on the day.
For Hearts, they have also had a poor run of things leading into the season but their main concern between now and September 1 is the future of captain Lawrence Shankland, who is expected to leave at some point, though Hearts’ asking price has been a sticking point already.
Shankland may not have had the playing time to influence Euro 2024 in the way he might have liked after a brilliant campaign in which he scored 33 goals in all competitions, and I expect him to hit the ground running this year and show Rangers what they could be getting.
He is 11/4 with Paddy Power to get on the scoresheet in 90 minutes.
I think there will be a few goals in the game. Neither side impressed at the back in pre-season and Rangers lost one of their leaders in Goldson who has marshalled the defence for a good few years now, so while I think Rangers have enough about them to get the win, I think we will see both teams score and over 3.5 goals in the match and you can get that at 11/2 with bet365.
