The Sentry 3-Ball Betting Tips - Round 1

After a compelling year of golf, the 2025 season kicks into gear at The Sentry in Hawaii on Thursday.
With a £16 million prize available, it’s fair to assert The Sentry is no small fry.
Many of the world’s top players will congregate at the Plantation Course at Kapalua, but Chris Kirk will be the man to beat as he is the reigning champion.
Co-designed by former Masters champion Ben Crenshaw, the Plantation Course, which opened in 1991, is the third longest on the PGA Tour schedule.
Apart from being one of eight Signature Events this season, The Sentry offers 700 FedEx Cup points to the winner.
Earlier this week, I explored and shared some outright betting tips, but now the focus will fall on the 3-ball betting tips, so let’s get stuck in, plus our best golf betting offers from the top online bookmakers.
The Sentry 3-Ball Betting Tips - Round One
Check out my three selections for the opening round at the Plantation Course course on Thursday - ideal for a 10/1 golf acca.
Collin Morikawa to beat Sam Burns & Patrick Cantlay
Collin Morikawa may not quite be at the level he was a few seasons ago where he was conquering all before him.
That said, he has a penchant for Kapalua, and on five previous visits, he has never finished lower than seventh which is a good indicator.
He boasts a 20-round average of 67.80, but this group contains plenty of talent.
Patrick Cantlay, for example, is an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, although he would have been a bit higher for SG: Off-the-tee (61st in 2024).
Sam Burns was T14 on his previous outing at the Hero World Challenge, and he chalked up eight top-10 finishes in 2024.
However, after backing Morikawa for my outright pick, I’m going with him to shade things for the first of my 3-ball betting tips.
Xander Schauffele to beat Wyndham Clark & Ludvig Aberg
Heading up this group is Xander Schauffele, and the World No.2 is a former champion at The Sentry.
Not only that but with two majors trousered in 2024, he will be looking to add to that collection this year.
A challenge this week could come from Wyndham Clark, who took home the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro–Am last year, although he generally flopped at the majors, missing two cuts.
Ludvig Aberg came into some form towards the end of last year, with four top-20 finishes, but Schauffele exudes confidence.
I went with Schauffele to set the early pace in Round 1, and my money is on him to win this 3-ball group.
Justin Thomas to beat Hideki Matsuyama & Adam Scott
To conclude the opening round of play, there is a tasty group to tuck into.
Justin Thomas’ results may have wavered during 2024, but he has had some joy at The Sentry.
With two wins and an average finish of ninth as well as an average score of -18 pays testament to this.
In contrast, Hideki Matsuyama has been a bit underwhelming at times at this event, and last year was well adrift in 58th spot.
Adam Scott, meanwhile, could be a bit of a dark horse especially if he gets on the birdie trail, and this could be the group to pay close attention to.
However, I’m leaning towards Thomas to take the spoils on Thursday.
