Ascot holds an excellent seven-race card on Friday, including several competitive handicaps. Charlie McCann and Scott McGlynn are back with their free Ascot tips, including a selection at 6/1.
Scott McGlynn - 4:00pm Ascot - Flavour Maker (Each-Way)
The Roger Varian-trained FLAVOUR MAKER (Each-Way) makes his handicap debut this afternoon, and from a mark of 75, could be slightly underestimated.
He finished second at Windsor in September behind Fools Gold, who then did not disgrace himself in the Group 2 Flying Childers at Doncaster, finishing close home to horses rated over 100.
Flavour Maker failednot build on that Windsor run when managing only fourth at Pontefract, but he hung left for long periods that day, seemingly not at ease on the rain-softened ground.
Jockey James Doyle is onboard for the first time this afternoon, and with conditions to suit, a big run looks on the cards.
Charlie McCann - 5:10pm Ascot - Hedonista (Each-Way)
Baileys Khelstar carries a 5lbs penalty for scoring at Southwell last week, but that is negated by the claim of Archie Young, and he would be carrying an additional 4lbs from the weekend. Given the manner of his 4L success, he is the one to beat, but I was not convinced it was the best of races, and I am keen on HEDONISTA (Each-Way) as an each-way alternative.
On a line through Sir Mark Prescott’s Blindedbythelights, there is not much between Ed Walker’s filly and the Charlie Johnston-trained gelding, and the selection improved for the step up to two miles at Kempton at the back end of the summer.
She lacks a run this term, which is a slight negative, but her fourth at Kempton on her penultimate start has worked out very well, and she is only 4lbs higher than when scoring cosily on her final start back in September.
The filly has only raced once on turf, but that was a decent run behind the Prescott horse at Newbury and the hope is that she can transfer her improved polytrack form at the trip to fast turf.
