Boxing Tips - 8/1 Acca for Saturday, April 20

The big fights in boxing are beginning to bloom this spring, with Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia one of the first to show some real colour this coming weekend in New York.

These two will fight for the WBC world lightweight title in Brooklyn, but that’s not all on the boxing agenda over the weekend.

Let’s take a look at the 8/1 Acca we’ve thrown together for this weekend’s action.

Saturday Boxing

Sam Noakes to beat Yvan Mendy by Decision/Technical Decision

It’s not all about Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia this weekend.

In fact, it’s another lightweight clash that is expected to turn heads on Saturday night from inside London’s historic York Hall, as Sam Noakes looks to continue his assault on the 135-pound division and grab a European title in the process.

With 13 knockouts in his 13 professional wins, Sam Noakes’ stock is rising considerably in the domestic lightweight scene, but Saturday night promises to be a tough(er) assignment than previously faced against a guy with a wealth of experience in Yvan Mendy.

Mendy may be 38, but the Frenchman has been there and done it in world boxing – a hungry, powerful Noakes won’t be a surprise to the man who hasn’t been stopped in 56 pro bouts.

Mendy is as tough as his record suggests, and that’s not all he has to offer. He’s only lost to Luke Campbell and Denys Berinchyk since 2015 and will make life very hard for the home favourite in London.

Arnold Barboza Jr to beat Sean McComb by KO/TKO/Disqualification

Opportunity knocks for Sean McComb this weekend in Brooklyn.

The Irish southpaw has the chance to end Arnold Barboza’s 29-fight unbeaten streak as the chief support to Haney-Garcia and, in turn, knock on the door of the biggest names in the super-lightweight division.

McComb (31) has not fought any top-ranked boxers before Barboza, and he will also fight outside of Britain for the first time in six years, so when assessing his chances in Brooklyn it’s important to remember that this will be considered a big step up.

Barboza hasn’t exactly set the world alight as a pro and will be targetting bigger titles than the WBO international strap in the 140-pound division going forward.

We’re not promising fireworks in this one, but Barboza’s shot selections could pay dividends down the stretch if McComb attempts to land any Hail Marys.

Barboza to get the stoppage down the stretch is priced very well, testing the chin of the away fighter that was stopped in 2021 against Gavin Gwynne.

Devin Haney to beat Ryan Garcia by KO/TKO/Disqualification

The health of Ryan Garcia has dominated the build-up to this fight.

The young superstar has been acting erratically online and in person for weeks now, and it is still touch and go whether the fight will go ahead.

The 25-year-old claims this is all a promotional tool he is using to his advantage, but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that “King-Ry” is experiencing some difficulties.

And it’s possible to ignore this when picking a winner.

Devin Haney is the ultimate professional who lives the life of the fight game and has passed every test thrown at him in the sport with flying colours.

Haney’s recent wins in big fights against George Kambosos, Vasyl Lomachenko, and Regis Prograis have escalated him up the pound-for-pound rankings, and a highlight-reel knockout against a defenceless Garcia looks highly likely this Saturday night.
