Clinton Morrison backs Coventry for top six and Preston for the drop

This week with Clinton we discuss just how good Lamine Yamal is, the Champions League semi-finals and of course the final day of the EFL season.
There's plenty on the line in the Championship in particular, and Clinton has made his predictions on who will go down which you can take advantage of alongside some of our top football betting offers.
So, looking ahead to the weekend, here's what Clinton had to say when speaking exclusively to Free Bets:
Lamine Yamal
Q: The only place to start is with Barcelona v Inter Milan on Wednesday night. What a crazy game, 3-3 in a first leg!
I thought it was a brilliant game. I thought it was one of the best Champions League games I've seen for ages, the standard was outstanding.
I thought Inter Milan do what Inter Milan do, where they make it difficult. Barca were ridiculous keeping the ball, but that high line will cause them problems at the San Siro. That's the only problem with Barca, the high line.
But the boy Yamal is…let me tell you, he's probably going to be the best player in the world by a country mile because the things he can do at 17 years of age with the ball are unbelievable. I was hoping they kept giving him the ball. He's a joy to watch. The balance, the composure, the finishing, and the crossing, were excellent.
It's like he's quite old and experienced and he's only 17. He’s ridiculously good.
Q: You said he is “going” to be the best player in the world - is he already? He’s won the Euros and done that in a Champions League semi-final…
I think he is and I think he's going to hold it for many years.
I don't think there's anyone doing what he's doing and has the ability that he has on the football to do what he's doing.
I'd probably put him up there as the best player in the world at this moment in time because there's no argument. I know you've got the likes of Mbappe and there's other players that will come into the equation, but he's a super talent.
Q: The age is one thing, but even if you take that out of the equation he is still a brilliant, brilliant player...
At the moment, the age is nothing because of what he's doing in his numbers. That was his 100th game for Barcelona at 17 years of age. It's ridiculous.
You can see that he's starting to grow now, develop and become an adult but he's still a child, if you know what I mean. He's a joy. He was outstanding. Him and Pedri were brilliant.
Q: There have been a lot of comparisons to Messi after the game and it seems ridiculous to compare anyone to Messi, but you can see why people are doing that, can’t you?
I think it's ridiculous at the moment. Messi was an unbelievable footballer, but they are kind of the same, the way they play and they go past people and the way they manipulate that football.
But he's only 17, you've got a way to go before you compare what Lionel Messi has done in the game to what he's done, I think it's crazy to compare them.
But if he keeps going the way he's going at the moment, he's got a great chance to do what Lionel Messi's done. But Messi's numbers and what he did at Barca single-handedly sometimes, it's fantastic.
Don't get me wrong, the young man's an unbelievable football sensation. But I won't compare him to Messi just yet because Messi is Messi. He'll always be the GOAT.
Q: But can you see why people are starting to put him in that bracket of player, after last night?
Yeah, if he keeps going. I've not seen a lot of him this season. It's one of the first games I've seen, and let me tell you something - wow. He's improved massively and he's matured and developed well. He's filled out a bit more and his close control is ridiculous.
The goal he scores is typical. If you just shut your eyes and didn't know who it was, you'd think it was Messi. The way he just picked it up, dribbled and whipped it into that far corner. We’ve seen Messi do that for many years at Barcelona. If he keeps going the way he's going, he’s going to be one of the best.
Players like this don't come around often.
I heard Inzaghi say that these sort of players come around like once every 15, 20 years and he's the next one.
We had Messi, we had Ronaldo and now we've got him.
He's a fantastic footballer. I just don't want people to big him up too much. He looks like he's a very calm, level-headed kind of guy. He will need the support of his family because he's going to get so much attention, but he deserves it because he's a fantastic footballer and as I said, he's got the world at his feet.
Advantage Inter/PSG?
Q: Back to the game, and Inter will be pretty happy with that result, won’t they?
Yeah, they will. Barca can't defend set pieces.
They'll be happy because Inter at the San Siro is a hard game for Barcelona. It's hard to call. You don't know who the favorites are at the moment. You might just say Inter Milan are because of how hard they are to play at home.
Credit to Inter Milan because going away and scoring three goals at Barcelona is brilliant, so next week the game should be very fascinating.
One thing I will say though, is they miss Lewandowski. If they have Lewandowski, they win the game. There were loads of crosses into the box and Ferran Torres is not a natural goal scorer whereas Lewandowski would get on the end of it.
If they have him back fit for the second leg, I make Barcelona favourites.
Q: And how about Arsenal v PSG on Tuesday? It wasn’t a great night for Arsenal, so PSG will fancy their chances going back to Paris…
It was a poor performance from Arsenal. Very poor. They had chances, though - Martinelli's got to score and Trossard was unlucky, but Donnarumma is a fantastic goalkeeper, he’s one of the best in the world.
It just looked like Arsenal lacked ideas and their big players didn't turn up on the day. You've got to give credit to PSG though. I thought they defended well and when they got past that, you have to beat Donnarumma who was in fantastic form, and then they've got the players on the break that can go and score, and Barcola probably should have wrapped it up.
That's what you worry about with PSG. Arsenal try to press but PSG are so good at just breaking their press.
Once they break your press, they're out and they're very good at what they do. As I said, the front three, they can cause problems. PSG look like a real team at the moment. They're probably the favorites at the moment I'll be honest with you, to go on and win the Champions League.
Q: Arsenal maybe didn’t do themselves justice?
No they didn’t. At the Emirates you've got to give the fans something to cheer about but it was quiet.
They needed their fans to get behind them, but it was quiet. It was kind of flat and the only noise you could hear was the PSG fans who turned up in their numbers. The players didn't really give the fans anything to cheer about, it was a disappointing performance. But they're still in it, they went to Real Madrid and won, so why can't they go to the PSG and win and put on a better performance?
Q: After the first legs, what would you expect the final to be?
Probably PSG v Barcelona.
It will probably go on and be Inter v Arsenal now I’ve said that!
I think they're the two teams I won't rule out. I’m 50-50 with the Inter v Barca game but I probably want Barcelona because of the attacking players they’ve got and the flair and I think it'd be a brilliant final with PSG v Barcelona.
Liverpool
Q: Liverpool officially won the title at the weekend - what has impressed you most about them this season?
Liverpool have been good. As people said that it hasn't been the Premier League because of the other teams but that's down to the other teams. All Liverpool can do is go out and perform.
They've had players play to their maximum this season. Remember, it is Arne Slot's first year. There was big pressure on him to come in and fill Jurgen Klopp's shoes and he's come in and done that brilliantly and produced the trophy.
I think Liverpool have been fantastic. The best team by a country mile in the Premier League, and fully deserved this. Two of their superstars have signed new contracts so they'll be in the title race again for sure next season. They'll probably add a few more players to their squad and take them to another level.
So there'll be all the other teams trying to play catch-up to try and take the title back off Liverpool.
There are plenty of unsung heroes like Gravenberch, Mac Allister and people like that who have been outstanding in midfield. Mac Allister is such a good footballer. His medals are starting to add up now, he's nearly won everything in the game.
Q: Chances of repeating next year?
They've got a great chance because I think players will probably leave and then they'll have to bring in other players that can take them forward.
They're linked to Isak - if they can get a number nine who can deliver goals week in, week out. I like Jota but he's just never fit enough to do that week in, week out. With a number nine, they’re a different animal Liverpool, because they create so many chances but with a proper number nine who stays through the middle and causes a lot of problems. I think they'll be a proper handful.
I like Bradley, the youngster at right back but I still think they would need to bring in a world class right back if they do lose Trent because I think Trent's one of the best fullbacks we'll ever see in the Premier League for his passing and his ability on the ball and the things he can do with it.
There are areas Liverpool know they need to strengthen and they probably need someone at left-back to compete with Robertson because I don't know if Tsimikas will be there.
There are a lot of areas they'll look to strengthen and I think they will strengthen and I think they'll be stronger next season. The other teams behind have to be stronger and have to try and add to their squads as well.
FA Cup Semi-Finals
Q: You were at Wembley on Saturday to see Palace beat Aston Villa - how good was that?
Yeah I was just there watching with my friend, which was great.
That's the best I've seen Palace play all season. I thought they were fantastic. I thought it was tactically a game that Glasner managed well because Villa weren't good on the day, but I think Palace made them not look good on the day.
When you score a goal like Eze does, it lights up the whole of Wembley and then you get the extra confidence and let's be honest, it was 3-0 but it could have been 5 or 6 and that’s not being disrespectful.
I'd rather have seen Forest in the final because Man City look like they're clicking at the moment, but Forest did have some big chances.
I'll be there at the final and hopefully Palace can be celebrating because it was a fantastic performance.
Q: Where does that put Palace’s season on a whole now?
The season has been a very big success. I think it's been very good and hopefully they can kick on and do better.
The thing is, we started the season so slow and there were question marks over Oliver Glasner when they were going to compete. Palace are not a team that's got loads of money, but still have to bring in players.
I always knew Glasner would be the right man. The next thing is trying to tie Glasner down because there'll be a lot of other clubs looking at Glasner because of the job he has done. So, as I said, it's been a successful season.
Hopefully we can have a good end to the season with the Premier League and then we can try and win the FA Cup. It's going to be difficult, Man. City are the favorites.
EFL
Q: The main event this weekend is the EFL and the last day of the season. Plenty going on at the top and bottom of the table, including a massive game between Coventry and Boro for the play-offs. It couldn’t be set up more perfectly, could it?
It’s a huge game because both of the teams are not in good form at the moment, the last two or three games have been nowhere near good enough. It’s winner takes all, isn't it? Millwall have a say and so do Blackburn but they’re all in with a shout. It's going to go right down to the wire and that's why it's so exciting at the moment.
You can't really predict what's going to happen.
Q: It’s almost a play-off quarter-final between Coventry and Boro, isn’t it? With Millwall and Blackburn playing Burnley and Sheffield United - and probably both losing - then it’s winner takes it all
Yeah it is basically a quarter-final, winner takes all. If Coventry can do a job then they will be fine looking at the other games.
These weekends are the ones you look forward to and it should be a good one for sure because you just can't predict it.
You would say Coventry are favorites because Middlesbrough need to come out and try and attack and so you would say Coventry are favourites, but with the form at the moment you can’t be so sure.
Anything can happen on the last day of the season. That's why it's so exciting. That's why everyone enjoys the EFL because you can't predict it.
Q: And looking at the other end of the table, Plymouth are almost certainly down but there’s still loads going on with I think six teams in the fight
Plymouth are like four points off safety because their goal difference is so bad. They've just come too little too late. The new manager's gone in and he's done a brilliant job.
You probably say Plymouth and Cardiff are gone at this moment in time. Then you worry for one of Hull, Luton and Preston. I think Derby may have enough but against Stoke they still need to get something.
Hull have a tough game at Portsmouth and Luton are at West Brom. They’re all tough games but those two sides have nothing to play for, so you could see something happening. It’s all totally unpredictable at this stage of the season, and the twists and turns are what make it so brilliant.
Q: Hull’s goal difference really could put Preston in trouble if both they and Luton can pick up points…
That Bristol City game becomes so important, because Preston can very easily get sucked into it. Portsmouth could well be on the beach now, and you’d rather take that game than a trip to Bristol City if survival is on the line.
I can’t believe Preston has fallen into this. I looked at the table not long ago and they were fine, but now they have snuck in there and are in trouble.
I don’t think they’ve won since March, so they are bang in trouble.
You would say Hull going to Fratton Park are the team struggling the most, but I would say Preston are bang in trouble and the ones looking over their shoulders now, thinking they could get relegated. That’s why I love the Championship, seasons can just change in a matter of games, you cannot predict it!
Q: So, Preston are the team for the drop for you?
Yeah I think they are bang in trouble. Preston and Hull are the two teams I mainly worry for, but Preston’s game is harder. Luton and Derby should be fine but if I had to put my neck on the line, I’d say it would probably be Preston.
Colchester
Q: And finally, another old club, Colchester, have just fallen away from the top seven. Are they still in with a shout?
I’ve just had a look at the table and it’s going to be hard. I keep an eye on their results and Danny Cowley is doing a really good job, but their results have just dropped off at the wrong time.
It’s Salford’s to lose at the moment, and I can’t see Salford, Grimsby and Chesterfield all losing.
It’s disappointing because Colchester had it in their hands and it’s been taken away now. Cowley has gone in there and done a brilliant job though. We were talking about them fighting relegation before and now it’s about the play-offs, so it’s even more disappointing that they look like falling short.
But I think next season they have a big chance of getting promoted. He’s a good manager and knows those leagues, it’s just disappointing that they fell short this season.
