Clinton Morrison: Everyone in the Premier League wants Leeds United back

After Leeds and Burnley's promotions from the Championship on Monday, that dominates this week's chat with Clinton along with the upcoming FA Cup semi-finals.
Looking ahead to this weekend of action, we've picked out some key fixtures and put some predictions alongside some of our top football betting offers.
So, looking ahead to the weekend, here's what Clinton had to say when speaking exclusively to Free Bets:
Leeds & Burnley Promoted
Q: In the end, is Leeds and Burnley going up a fair reflection of the league this season?
I called it at the start. Listen, Sheffield United I think have been very good. They had two points deducted and were in the mix, but losing those three games kind of killed them at the wrong time.
You always say it's all about momentum and their momentum stopped right towards the end so it was disappointing.
But Leeds and Burnley were always the two outstanding teams. For me, I said it at the start of the season - and I'm not just saying it now - I just thought Sheffield United do have a fantastic squad and still could win the play-offs, but I think Leeds deserve to be back in the Premier League.
They have a great fan base, a great supported club, a huge football club and I think everyone in the Premier League wants Leeds United in there.
It's a good ground to go and play football and the fans are hostile - they're really involved in it. It was great news that Leeds got back in and Burnley too.
Burnley were outstanding and what a job Scott Parker has done. He has galvanized the team after last year.
It is one of the best defensive shapes you've probably seen in the Championship for many years. They have added better quality further forward too by bringing in the likes of Edwards from Sporting.
I think when they brought him in it gave everyone a lift because they were struggling to score goals. They just kicked on from there and they've been first class.
Josh Brownhill has been a fantastic captain. He is always delivering from midfield, and it’s been a fantastic season for Burnley.
Credit to Sheffield United for putting the pressure on them all year but in my mind, the two best teams have gone up.
Q: In terms of next season, they will both have to strengthen as you say but do you see them putting up a better fight than the three teams going down this season?
I would hope so, and I probably think they would.
I do think Burnley have money and will back Parker - he’s managed in the Premier League before, so he knows what it's about.
I think Burnley will give themselves a fighting chance but it might still be difficult.
Teams that come up, they will still be the online bookmakers' favorites for relegation but that's just because of the gap.
I think Leeds as well with the owners there, they'll spend. They'll be ambitious because they don't want to be a yo-yo team going up and down.
I think the two teams are equipped to give it a good go - probably more so than Leicester and Southampton did this season for sure.
I think if they're going to do their business, hopefully they do it early in the summer and get their players in for pre-season. I know you can't always do that because it doesn't work like that with the transfers but I think they'll have the ideas of the players that they want, and if they can get them in early they've got something to work with at the start of the season.
Q: We’ve mentioned those teams who have been relegated, and probably two of them - Ipswich and Southampton - you’d have predicted at the start of the season. But have you been surprised by just how bad Leicester have been this year?
Leicester have been really bad, and nowhere near good enough.
They got rid of Steve Cooper who possibly might have given them a fighting chance, but I know they didn't like the style of football. However, sometimes you've just got to do what you've got to do and play a certain way to get results.
I’ve been to a few Leicester games this season and they haven't shown enough fight. I don't think they’re anywhere near good enough and haven't shown the quality.
Jamie Vardy at 38 years of age has been their best player - and while Jamie Vardy is a top striker, and he’s had a fantastic career, it's got to be other players that have to step up to the mark.
I just don't think they've been good enough and I don't think they've recruited well enough or signed enough good players to give themselves a fighting chance to stay.
I worry for Leicester next season. I do hope they can bounce back next season and come back to the Premier League, but that's the team who I worry about
Daniel Farke Under Pressure?
There have been reports that Leeds might move on from Daniel Farke despite getting promoted earlier this week. Is that a bit harsh or can you understand it given his past record in the Premier League?
I see where they're coming from, because his record in the Premier League is not very good.
But to get rid of a manager who's got you promoted after playing 46 games a season and with Leeds still able to win the Championship, I think I'd be disappointed if I was a manager, most definitely.
Leeds fans may think differently because they want to have a fighting chance of staying in the Premier League. But you've earned the right to be a Premier League manager and get the club promoted, so it just wouldn't sit right with me. I think he's earned it. He deserves a crack, but I know what they're saying.
If they give him six or seven games, he doesn't start the season well and then you become cut adrift - then you're playing catch-up and have to get a new manager in, you’d imagine the Leeds hierarchy will have something to think about.
If they do get rid of him, I'm sure there'll be a lot of jobs available for him in the Championship because his record in the Championship is first class.
Q: If you’re just going to keep him to give him a chance, but then potentially get rid of him during the season, you’re not giving yourself the best chance at staying up, are you? Look at Leicester this season…
Yeah, that's difficult. You have to give him a proper chance at least until Christmas. But I understand that Leeds are worried that if they don't start well, then they’re in big trouble.
That's the risk you take when you bring him into the club and he gets you promoted. Obviously there are new owners in and they might have different ideas, and they may want to go down different routes and have different managers that they want to look at who might be a bit more experienced in the Premier League.
But if I was a manager and got Leeds - a big football club like that - promoted and then they got rid of me, I'd be really devastated. But that is football and that's the business we're in.
Leeds have got to look at themselves and see what gives them the best chance to stay in the Premier League.
I think Daniel Farke would do a good job if they had the right personnel. They need to add to the squad for sure because the gap between the Championship and the Premier League is getting bigger. Leeds couldn't just go into next season with that same squad of players.
You would have to strengthen and bring in some Premier League experience and players from abroad. It's a hard one and it's a difficult situation. It's hard to talk about it when it hasn't happened - however rumors come from somewhere and sometimes end up being true.
I hope they stick with him. He’s done a great job as at times, it looked like it would be Sheffield United and Burnley, but he was able to get that little bit extra from the players.
It'll be a big call from Leeds, but at the end of the day, the hierarchy there spends the money, and they make the big decisions. So whatever decision they make, they will think it will be the best for the club.
Championship Relegation
Q: Looking at the other end of the Championship table with only two games left and it’s pretty much all to play for. They all seem to be winning and there are some massive games coming up…
You feel for Plymouth, they’ve had a great run but have got difficult games and what has killed them is that all the other teams around them won, so even though you think you're catching them up, you're still at the bottom of the table.
Cardiff got a draw - they'll be disappointed to have conceded in the last few minutes. So, if Derby win and Luton win, it will go right down to the wire. It's a hard one to call because Luton this weekend have Coventry, who are fighting to try and get into the play-offs because Middlesbrough and Millwall are right behind them so that's a big match.
Derby have a six-pointer against Hull and finish the season with Stoke at home. I think they will be fine. John Eustace has gone in there and done a fantastic job.
Oxford got a good point but you look at the likes of Stoke as well that could get sucked back in it. This weekend's pivotal. We’ll know how many teams are left in it after this weekend's results with one game to go
Can you imagine Luton getting back-to-back relegations? It'd be crazy with the squad of players that they've got. They've only lost Ross Barkley. Their squad of players shouldn't be anywhere near the relegation zone because they were competitive in the Premier League.
Q: Plymouth and Cardiff look like they are cut a little bit adrift, who else do you think will go down?
Derby have been great, but the game against Hull is winner takes all. Win it and you put yourself in a great position for the last game of the season, while if you lose, you could be in big trouble.
Mowbray, Thorup = Out
Q: Norwich and West Brom both got rid of managers this week. It’s not a huge surprise at this stage of the season, but what did you make of those two moves?
I was surprised by the timing of it, but they (West Brom) were really, really poor against Derby at the weekend and the fans were frustrated. They got booed off at the end and maybe the owners are thinking it’s time to go in a different direction.
I like Tony Mowbray. I think he’s a fantastic manager and has got loads of experience in the Championship so it was disappointing to see how it ended for him.
As for Norwich, that was always going to happen. It's been a disappointing season for Norwich, they would have expected to have a shot at the play-offs but that hasn’t worked out.
This is an opportunity for young Jack Wilshere to go in and do well from now to the end of the season and put himself as a manager in the shop window. We know how much of a fantastic player Jack Wilshere was but let's see now how he can do as an interim manager.
I wish him well because I loved him as a footballer and now hopefully he can go on and have a good managerial career.
League One Drama
Q: Moving onto League One, and that’s set up for a crazy finish. Obviously Birmingham are up, but then Wrexham and Wycombe have kind of been swapping places for a while. Charlton beat Wickham at the weekend. Wrexham are playing Charlton this weekend. That's really well set up, isn't it?
Charlton could end up getting into one of the automatic spots, because they've been in great form under Jones. They blew Wycombe away the other day at Adams Park. It was a fantastic result and Jones has gone in there and done a really good job.
The Wrexham v Charlton game is a huge football match and it should all still go down to the final match. If Charlton win, then there are three teams all with a shout on the final day of the season, it’s just brilliant
Wrexham are still the favourites at this stage, but Charlton are the in-form team. I wouldn’t write them off, but it will all hinge on Saturday's game.
FA Cup Semis
Q: Moving onto the FA Cup weekend, and your old club Crystal Palace are in action against your old favourites Aston Villa. You must be looking forward to that one?
I'll be there at the game. It will be a hell of a game, to be fair.
Palace got a good result against Arsenal and they needed it because they’ve been in poor form recently, so that should be a confidence booster going into it.
It's a difficult game because Villa have been in fantastic form and Emery's done a brilliant job there, but both teams have players that can cause problems and can go and score goals out of nothing. I hope Palace can get through to the final.
It'll be a great day for the fans , the players, the management and the chairman. But it's a difficult game because Aston Villa are a good, good team. You saw what they did to PSG, and then nearly got a point against Man City, but hopefully Palace can come through it because it's a game you can't really call.
I know people would probably say Aston Villa are favourites, but on any given day, I think Palace can go and beat any team in the Premier League with the attacking players they've got.
It's just who turns up on the day and who plays the occasion of the last four.
Q: On the other side of the draw, Manchester City are starting to look ominous and are coming into good form just at the right time
Yeah, they look good. They look good even though I still think they're not back to their best.
But the thing with City at the moment is they're getting results right at the right time. That's the experience and that's the class they've got in their team.
It does coincide with Kevin de Bruyne playing week in, week out and Bernardo Silva coming back into form. So they've got players like Doku who can come on and make an impact. So they've got a great squad Man City do look ominous for the other teams but Forest will believe they can get something.
Forest have been outstanding this season and they won't have the ball a lot but when they do, they'll play on the counter attack and use the pace in their team.
I think Villa and Palace will be more open because I think both teams like to go forward and be expansive and showcase their ability, but I think the Man City v Forest game will be about Man City dominating and Forest just trying to play on the counter.
