T20 Blast Betting Tips Preview
Birmingham finished top of the North Group with 10 wins, while Gloucestershire snuck into the quarter-finals by finishing fourth in the South. They qualified courtesy of a superior net run-rate over last year’s beaten finalists Essex, who finished fifth.
Some may say, ‘Their name’s on it’. But I just don’t see how they prevent a Birmingham Bear hunt, so to speak.
No team in the competition won as many group fixtures as the Bears, so it’s no surprise they are the 8/15 favourites to secure a place on home turf at Edgbaston on September 14.
Instead of that, Betway’s 5/4 on Birmingham to win and Moeen Ali to hit at least one six in the match is definitely worth siding with. Moeen has hit 13 of them in five group games for his county.
Oh Danny Boy
Bears left-arm spinner Danny Briggs is the competition’s leading wicket-taker with 27. Incidentally, he’s two ahead of Gloucestershire left-arm seamer David Payne.
Briggs is in fine form at present. In 10 of 14 matches so far in this competition, he has taken two or more wickets. He has done that in six of his last seven matches for the county. Added to that, he claimed five wickets in four Hundred appearances for Southern Brave last month.
Betway are offering another 5/4 on him to take at least two wickets in this last-eight tie.
It surprises me a touch that Birmingham are the overwhelming favourites to hit the most match sixes. Virgin Bet, for example, are offering 7/4 on Gloucestershire to win that market.
Through the tournament, Birmingham have hit more - but the tallies are 93 to 90. I think that 7/4 is worth siding with.
Another Dan’s been impressing in Brum
It’s not just one Dan who has performed for the Bears in this tournament, it’s two.
So let’s continue this T20 Blast betting tips preview by looking at batting all-rounder Dan Mousley, who is having an excellent tournament - as a call-up to England’s T20 squad for the forthcoming Australia series suggests.
As a result, he may not be able to play at Finals Day next Saturday should his team qualify. Jacob Bethell is in the same boat.
Left-hander Mousley has scored 375 runs from number three in the Blast and has taken 13 wickets with his off-spin. It’s his batting I want to concentrate on. I just think Betfred’s 4/1 on him to be Birmingham’s top run-scorer in the match is just too juicy for a quality number three.
You may say to me, he had a poor Hundred. But he’s due a score. And what better time to produce it to get your team to Finals Day and show a big TV audience why England have picked you.
Gloucestershire captain Jack Taylor is another batter who provides value in the top run-scorer market. He’s 13/2, again with Betfred, to lead the way for the Bristol county.
Batting in the middle order - five, generally - he bats in overdrive, so has the ability to catch up if necessary. He is one of three Glos batters to have topped 300 runs in this season’s Blast, and he’s clattered 21 sixes.
A small stakes approach is worth consideration here.
