India v England Preview
As the old saying goes, one swallow doesn’t make a summer. So if England do manage to win this final match of the series, then there will still be major question marks heading into the Champions Trophy, which starts in Pakistan next week.
But at least they will have given themselves some confidence which must be in short supply at present. Having lost the T20 series 4-1, they are 2-0 down in the 50-over stuff. Added to that, Jacob Bethell has picked up a hamstring injury and is ruled out of the Champions Trophy. It has been nothing short of a disastrous tour to date.
Do I see it easing? No I don’t. I tipped India to win this ODI series 3-0 before a ball was bowled, and nothing I have seen has changed my mind.
They are a short-priced 4/9 to win in Ahmedabad. I wouldn’t be taking that and will look for value elsewhere.
I have settled on a three-fold bet365 bet builder, which brings home 21/10 for India to win, for them to hit the most sixes in the match and for there to be at least one run out in the match.
India hit nine sixes to England’s four in Cuttack on Sunday, while there were four run outs in the match.
Ravi running riot
India’s left-arm spinning all-rounder Ravi Jadeja is set to play his 200th career ODI. He took three wickets in each of the first two matches in this series and warmed up for it with 12 wickets in a first-class appearance for Saurashtra.
We once again look to bet365 for this next bet, which is for Jadeja to take two or more wickets in his milestone match. The price on offer is 13/8.
I have a feeling for Shreyas Iyer success in Ahmedabad, where I would be interested in BetGoodwin’s 17/4 on the hosts’ number four to top score for them.
Iyer has impressed with 59 and 44 in the first two fixtures, but he has been bettered by team-mates on both occasions. For a man in form, that’s an enticing price.
If others before him get off to a decent start, he certainly has the dynamism to catch up.
It’s the same with England’s Harry Brook, who hasn’t quite shown the form that Iyer has, but he did look promising for 31 in Cuttack.
Through various assignments in recent years, Brook has struggled to adapt to India conditions, including at the IPL. He has only topped 20 twice in seven innings on this tour. He’s too good not to produce at some point, and I fancy it could be in Ahmedabad.
Paddy Power have him at 9/2 to be England’s top batter in the match.
And to wrap up this ODI betting tips preview, I quite like the look of betway’s 11/2 on both teams to compile an opening partnership of 50 or more.
That has happened in three of the four innings so far in this series, and twice for England. That certainly hasn’t been the tourists’ issue. It’s been more their failure to build on good starts. If they can get that right in Ahmedabad, they have a chance of finishing on a high.
