Ipswich v Aston Villa Match Preview
As far as Ipswich’s start to this new Premier League season is concerned, it is fair to say that the opening weeks have been solid than opposed to spectacular and although the Tractor Boys are still looking for their first win, there are still plenty of positives to take from their efforts.
Positives that come from picking up three successive draws and although the fixture computer was rather unkind in the first two weeks of the season, defeats to both Liverpool and Manchester City have not defined how Kieran McKenna’s men have performed since.
After the baptism of fire that comes with being paired with two of the top three sides in last season’s edition of the Premier League, the difficulty curve has since become much flatter and since the reverse at the Etihad, draws with Fulham, Brighton and Southampton have followed.
While you only have to take last weekend’s stalemate at St Mary’s as an indication of the character that this Ipswich side has and with the clock ticking into the 94th minute of the game, Ipswich were still trying to find parity after Tyler Dibling’s first ever goal for Southampton.
Endeavour that was rewarded with Sam Morsy’s speculative effort deflecting past Aaron Ramsdale and as the travelling Ipswich support were sent into delirium, Saints manager Russell Martin could only rue his sides lack of game management.
Now though, it is Ipswich who will need the game management as they prepare to welcome Aston Villa to Portman Road and although Unai Emery’s men may have a habit of starting slowly in recent weeks, they also have a habit of ending things in top gear.
A two-goal deficit to claw back against Everton a fortnight ago and half the deficit to overturn against local rivals Wolves seven days later. Both times, Villa scored three goals to engineer back-to-back home wins.
While the reasoning for their strong finishes can be largely attributed to one man in particular. That man in Jhon Duran and his hunger against both Everton and Wolves gives manager Emery a slight headache before Sunday.
Even off the bench, the Colombian has scored four Premier League goals this season and although he is currently the hottest supersub in the top tier, his performances arguably deserve a place in the starting eleven
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and regardless of whether Duran is in the starting eleven or not, I am backing him to find the net. Add this to an Aston Villa win in a two-leg bet builder and this combination is currently priced at 15/4.
In addition to this, I am going to shine the spotlight on Ipswich’s Liam Delap and the shots on target market. If the son of Stoke legend Rory has at least two on Sunday, those efforts in front of goal will tick off a second tip at odds of 8/1.
