The PGA Tour will stay in California this week for the highly-anticipated Famers Insurance Open in this week's golf betting tips.
Fervent golf fans need to make sure they aren’t caught out by the Wednesday start. This is a day earlier than most PGA Tour events on the circuit, with a Saturday finish.
After a thrilling final round at the American Express last weekend where Sepp Straka clinched his third Tour win to pip Justin Thomas by two strokes, there is an eminently stronger field this time around.
There still appears to be no sign of Scottie Scheffler on the entry list, but perhaps the American, who has been nursing a hand injury, will be targeting a comeback soon.
This week’s event is staged at Torrey Pines, which has previously hosted the US Open, but there are two daunting courses to contend with.
The South Course has undulating greens which requires careful attention, while the North Course greens are no picnic either.
Typically, the North Course, which is a par-72, had a stroke average of 69.5 in 2024, whereas the South Course, also a par-72, had a stroke average last year of 72.4, so the scoring differentiation needs to be taken into consideration.

Jason Day to end winless streak
There is something romantic about the Jason Day tale. After a few years in the wilderness, which included a catalogue of injury problems, the Australian, a former World No.1, is playing himself back into form this campaign.
This year, he has been trending in the right direction. A T40 at The Sentry was followed up last week by a T3 at The American Express.
A two-time winner in San Diego, Day has been accustomed to success in the past at The Farmers Insurance.
Although his putting average ranking was 33rd when he lifted the Farmers Insurance Open a decade ago, a fast start isn’t necessarily imperative.
I was probably a bit guilty of overinflating the likes of Collin Morikawa in the 2025 curtain raiser, while my pick last weekend Harry Hall was an also-ran, coming home last weekend in T14.
For the first of my golf betting tips, I’m going with Day to seal his third Farmers Insurance Open crown and 14th career PGA Title, and Paddy Power has obliged with enticing odds of 28/1.
Jason Day to get over the line in style
Of the three completed events on the PGA Tour this season, only one of these (Sony Open) went the distance to a nail-biting playoff with Nick Taylor taking the spoils.
The other two saw Hideki Matsuyama prevail by three strokes, while Sepp Straka won by two shots which would suggest neither had trouble getting past the finishing post.
Day is likely to be pushed hard, and Matthieu Pavon, the reigning champion, won’t want to give up his title without a fight.
When Day last won this event in 2018, he trailed by four shots going into the final round, so his powers of recovery are impressive.
To accompany my opening tip of Day to triumph, I’m drawn to the winning margin line. Day to prevail by two strokes may be on the long side at 50/1 with bet365, but don’t be deterred.
