Sunderland v Derby Match Preview
Sunderland come into Tuesday’s game off the back of their first blip, following a stunning start to the season, losing two of their last three.
Regis Le Bris has been the steady hand the Black Cats needed since taking the hot-seat, implementing a cohesive pressing structure that has allowed a series of prodigiously talented individuals to shine.
There’s a bit of work for the Wearsiders to do away from home, where they haven’t imposed that pressing game quite as well and have been punished with defeats to Plymouth Argyle and Watford.
Nonetheless, there’s no reason it won’t be business as usual upon their return to the Stadium of Light, hosting a Derby side yet to take so much as a point on the road.
Paul Warne tends to set his teams up more conservatively away from home at this level, which should allow Dan Neil the leeway to conduct play, Jobe Bellingham the space to bring out some Zidane-esque tricks, and Chris Rigg the initiative to create in the final third.
With excellent one-on-one specialists out wide, too, in Patrick Roberts and Romaine Mundle, Sunderland should continue their 100% winning home record.
