T20 World Cup Cricket Betting Tips: Australia v Scotland
We are concentrating on what could be a special and historic day for Scottish Cricket in our T20 World Cup Betting Tips preview
- Travis Head to score 25+ and David Warner to hit a six - 31/20 with Betway
- Travis Head to score a fifty - 9/4 with bet365
- Adam Zampa to be Australia’s top wicket-taker - 10/3 with betfair
- Zampa to take 2+ wickets and Warner to score 27+ runs - 4/1 with William Hill
- Matty Cross to top-score for Scotland - 9/1 with BetVictor
Scotland need just one point to advance through to the Super 8s, at England’s expense.
But the picture has clearly changed significantly on the back of England’s massive win against Oman last night - chasing 48 in 19 balls.
Scotland have gone from favourites for qualification to needing to get something out of this clash - rain or a tie would do - because England’s net run-rate was improved by almost a whopping five runs last night to put them ahead on the first separator should teams finish level on points, which England and Scotland are likely to do.
Josh Hazlewood’s comments the other day about manipulating net run-rate are now redundant.
Never before, in either a 50-over or a T20 World Cup, have Scotland qualified beyond the main group stage.
Here, they face an already-qualified Australia who are 1/7 to win.
I’d be amazed if Scotland win this one and create one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history. So, instead, it’s worth concentrating this T20 World Cup Betting Tips preview mostly on individual player success.
Betway have a pre-built bet of 31/20 on an Australian win, Travis Head to score 25 plus runs and his opening partner David Warner to hit a six.
Here are our top cricket betting tips for Thursday’s match, plus the best betting offers from the top online bookmakers.
Australia v Scotland T20 World Cup Betting Tips
Travis can be Head and Shoulders above the rest
Australian opener Head has made a decent but not spectacular start to the competition with scores of 12, 34 and 34 not out in three matches. He actually top-scored in their last match as they chased down 73 to beat Namibia.
I quite like bet365′s 9/4 on him to score a fifty in the match.
It surprises me that Adam Zampa is 10/3 with betfair to be Australia’s top wicket-taker in the match given his form - eight wickets in three appearances, including a four-for against Namibia on Tuesday. Quality spin against inferior players is always likely to bear fruit.
Also, there’s likely to be a seamer or even two rested for this fixture. I don’t expect Zampa to be rested, however.
With that in mind, William Hill - via their #YourOdds bets - have an interesting 4/1 shot on Zampa to take over two wickets and for David Warner to score over 27 runs.
I always think it’s worth having a look down the order for a top batter when an Associate nation plays a top side. A few top order failures would open up the chance for someone such as Matty Cross to top-score for Scotland, at 9/1 with BetVictor.
Wicketkeeper Cross bats at five, and he has had two low scores in the early matches. But he does have five T20I fifties to his name in 80 matches. Another would likely win this market.
I think it’s worth taking a low stakes approach to this.
