West Ham v Leicester Match Preview
West Ham will aim to deepen the woes of relegation-threatened Leicester at the London Stadium on Thursday evening in the Premier League.
The Hammers, who are 13 points clear of the drop in 16th spot, have been far from fluent this term, however, a priceless 1-0 victory away to Arsenal ended a sticky four-game spell without a win.
As far as Leicester is concerned, little has gone right for Ruud van Nistelrooy since he took over the reins back in December.
However, if you go back to his first game in charge, he ignited some belief in the squad with a handsome 3-1 win over the Hammers.
Oh, how he and the Foxes would love to recapture such memories to alleviate some of the pressure off themselves.
But how will things unfold in East London? I’m on hand to sprinkle some betting tips to underline my West Ham Leicester predictions.
West Ham to back up win over Arsenal
To frustrate Arsenal in the manner they did at the Emirates last weekend was impressive, but it’s fair to assert that the Gunners were insipid.
Jarrod Bowen’s 50th Premier League goal — a stooped header from close range — proved to be the difference, and the diminutive frontman has now scored five times against Arsenal in all competitions, only managing more against Wolves (six).
Moreover, by ending Arsenal’s 15-game unbeaten league run, the Hammers also dented the North London outfit’s title chances.
It is likely there would have been wild celebrations in the West Ham dressing room given the significance of the win.
But if we are to refocus on Leicester, they have been a bit of a bogey side for West Ham. Indeed, Graham Potter’s charges have won just four of their past 11 league clashes on home soil against the Foxes (D2 L5).
Although they enjoyed a 2-1 win away to Tottenham last month, Leicester’s most recent clashes with London-based sides have been hugely disappointing, shipping a combined six goals against Arsenal (0-2) and Brentford (0-4).
I don’t see things coming full circle for Van Nistelrooy and Co like on that magical night in December. For the first of my West Ham Leicester predictions, I’m going with West Ham to win to nil which is trading at a juicy 15/8 with Paddy Power.
Leicester’s resistance tactic to come unstuck in second half
Against Brentford last Friday, Leicester simply folded, and it marked the Foxes’ sixth straight league defeat without scoring.
A dismal record to say the least, and the Bees were out of sight before half-time.
West Ham, meanwhile, as you expected against Arsenal, were dominated in terms of possession and efforts registered on goal.
Against Leicester, I expect the Hammers to be more adventurous, and the Foxes may be forced into a low block to hang on.
While Leicester might try and make themselves tough to break down, I don’t envisage them thwarting West Ham for 90 minutes.
