Latest Profit & Loss Figures
We ended last week with a total of 10 winners, including successes at 14/1, 12/1 and 15/2, resulting in a healthy profit of +£35.58 to a £1 level stake.
I thought Saturday’s July Cup was ripe for a potential upset, unfortunately, I went for the wrong two outsiders, despite having napped the winner, No More Measures, when Richard Hughes’ charge finished second at Haydock on her previous start. No complaints though, on an otherwise excellent six days.
- P/L for the week ending Saturday 12th July: +£35.58
- P/L for the year 2025 to date: +£17.09
- P/L for the year 2024: +£200.42
- P/L since 1st September 2022: +£503.08
Alan Kelly’s Horse Racing Tips
We head to the meeting at Catterick for Wednesday’s horse racing selections, the ground at the North Yorkshire racecourse described as good to firm, good in places.
Nap - Made All (2:30pm Catterick)
Runner-up on his last three starts, Sam England’s consistent gelding is fancied to go one better with a victory in this modest amateur riders handicap.
2.30pm Catterick - Made All (Nap)
Catterick’s card kicks-off with this amateur jockeys’ handicap for riders with three wins or fewer at the start of the season. Runner-up on his last three starts, one of which came courtesy of a nose defeat in a similar race at Newcastle’s Northumberland Plate meeting, Sam England’s MADE ALL (Nap) is expected to finally get his head in front since for the first time since winning a handicap over today’s course and distance back in May.
Third in that Newcastle race was Made All’s stablemate Sandret, partnered on that occasion by Miss Rebecca Hitchen, who takes over from top amateur Mr Eireann Cagney on the Lope De Vega gelding this afternoon. Off a mark of 57, this consistent four-year-old will never have a better chance to record a second victory since joining the stable from that of Antony Brittain earlier in the year.
John O’Shea’s Fiddlers Green won an apprentice handicap on Kempton Park’s all-weather surface last week, but is equally effective on turf (recorded wins at Bath and Doncaster last year), and looks the main danger to Made All in a race which shouldn’t take too much winning.
Recommendation: Made All (Nap)
3:00pm Catterick - Gillali Lass
This modest Class 6 nursery looks a good opportunity for David O’Meara’s filly GILLALI LASS to open her account following an excellent first run in a handicap on this course last week. After a prolonged battle inside the closing stages with Michael & David Easterby’s well-supported favourite Oasis Diamond (previous run came in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot), the daughter of Cotai Glory just lost out by a head with the rest of the field well beaten off.
Running off the same mark of 55, Daniel Tudhope’s mount should prove more than capable of going one better with a similar performance. Nursery specialist, trainer Richard Hannon, is represented by Shetakesthegold, runner-up in a four-runner nursery at Lingfield last week and looks destined for the silver medal once again.
Recommendation: Gillali Lass
5:00pm Catterick - Vince Le Prince (Each-Way)
Runner-up in races at Thirsk and Musselburgh (twice) during the last few weeks, Tim Easterby’s VINCE LE PRINCE (Each-Way) could only manage to finish 8th of the 11 runners at Doncaster last week after hanging badly right-handed throughout the race on the five-year-old’s first visit to Town Moor.
The return to Catterick could enable David Allan’s mount to record a welcome first victory of 2025, the five-year-old’s previous efforts on the course resulting in form figures reading 1-1-2 (beaten a neck) - 1. The Iffraaj gelding clearly saves his best for the North Yorkshire track and is fancied to go close once again off a mark of 78.
Charlie Johnston’s Benacre finished three lengths behind Vince Le Prince at Musselburgh last time following strong market support and now meets the selection on 4lb better terms (9lb if you include the 5lb claim of jockey Archie Young) and may prove the main danger to Vince Le Prince on the gelding’s 33rd career start and first visit to Catterick.
We have yet to see the best of the two three-year-old’s in the race, Native Instinct and Mister Invincible, and any market confidence in either should be noted.
Recommendation: Vince Le Prince (Each-Way)
