Championship Acca Tips

Our top Championship picks for Wednesday

Blackburn v Reading – Away win

After clocking up five wins on the trot in all competitions, Blackburn looked to have hit their stride before a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Stoke stopped the Lancashire outfit in their tracks.

As things stand, Blackburn are in the frame for a playoff spot as they are fifth in the table, but the likes of Norwich and West Brom are still in the hunt in seventh and eighth respectively.

Reading in the meantime, have been on a bit of a rotten run, claiming just three points from a maximum of 15 in their past five league outings.

The Royals have conceded 55 times, with only Wigan shipping more (57), but the Championship always springs up a few surprise results, and this could be one of them.

For my first pick, I have gone with Reading to dent Blackburn’s playoff chances, and snatch three points, which is available at 15/4.

Cardiff v West Brom – Draw

Despite their seemingly precarious position, there is a six-point buffer between Cardiff in the 21st and the teams in the drop zone.

The Bluebirds may be goal shy this term (27), but a trip to the Cardiff City Stadium can be daunting for any visiting side.

West Brom, as mentioned, are in and around the playoffs, but they haven’t been the best on their travels, losing in each of their past three Championship games on the road.

Intriguingly, the past two clashes between Cardiff and West Brom have ended in a draw, with the corresponding fixture earlier this season resulting in both sides firing blanks.

This match may not be a belter either, but it could end up in a share of spoils. Arguably, this would probably suit Cardiff better as they continue to edge themselves to safety. A draw, therefore, appears to be good value at 9/4.

Sunderland v Sheffield United – Away win

With two defeats in their past three league outings, Sheffield United have given hope to their rivals, who are hot on their heels.

For the Blades, they have what is described in footballing parlance as 10 Finals to contend with. They will look to accrue as many points to punch their ticket to the Premier League, but overhauling Burnley appears to be a fruitless task.

In the meantime, Sunderland ended a recent losing streak with a priceless 1-0 win away to Norwich last weekend.

The form of Iliman Ndiaye, who has 20 goal involvements this term (12 goals and eight assists) will be vital if the Blades are going to secure automatic promotion.

To round things off, I have gone with United to record a league double over Sunderland, a price that is available at 5/4.
