Croatia′s Road to Qualification
Croatia are very much major tournament main-stays, set to feature at a sixth successive Euro, having also appeared at six of the last seven World Cups, although qualification this time round was not straight-forward.
Despite yielding 10 points from their first four fixtures, a disastrous October window meant Zlatko Dalić's team still had work to do going into the final double-header of matchdays. The Blazers were beaten 1-0 by Turkey in Osijek and then 2-1 in Cardiff by Wales, but by overcoming Latvia 2-0 and then Armenia 1-0 three nights later, the Checkered Ones did enough to get over the line, ending up a point below Turkey in the Group D standings.
This wasn’t a particularly impressive qualification campaign but, as they’ve shown time and time again, this team turn it on when it really matters.
They’ve also featured in the UEFA Nations League Finals for the very first time, enjoying group phase wins over Austria, Denmark and France, most-notably leaving Paris 1-0 winners.
Last summer in Rotterdam, Croatia ousted hosts Netherlands 4-2 in the semi-finals, before being denied a first-ever major title, defeated by Spain on penalties in the final at De Kuip.

Croatia′s Road to the Final
Round of 16
- If Croatia top Group B - they would face a third-place finisher from Group A, D, E or F in Köln on 30 June.
- If Croatia come second in Group B - they would face the runners-up from Group A in Berlin on 29 June, taking on one of Germany, Scotland, Switzerland or Hungary.
- If Croatia advance in third in Group B - they would face the group winners from C, E or F.
Quarter-finals
- If Croatia top Group B - we’re projecting that they’ll face Germany in Stuttgart on 5 July.
- If Croatia come second in Group B - we’re projecting that they’ll face England in Düsseldorf on 6 July.
Semi-finals

Croatia’s Key Players
Josko Gvardiol- Signed by Manchester City for €90 million last summer, Joško Gvardiol is one of the most highly-rated defenders on the planet, even if Premier League fans are still yet to see his full potential.
While he’s often deployed at left-back by Pep Guardiola, the position in which he was utilised throughout Euro 2020, Gvardiol has subsequently established himself as first-choice central defender for his national team, starting all seven World Cup matches there, most-likely to partner Josip Šutalo at this tournament.
Luka Modric- Even at 38 years old, Luka Modrić remains this team’s midfield maestro and rightly so, given that he remains one of the best players on the planet, and has amassed 174 caps for his nation and featuring at eight different major tournaments.
Modric is still pulling the strings in midfield for Real Madrid so expect him to play another major role this summer, lining-up alongside Marcelo Brozović and Mateo Kovačić in what looks to be quite the formidable midfield trio.
Ivan Perisic- Another member of Croatia’s golden generation that reached the 2018 World Cup Final, Ivan Perišić faces a race to beat fit in time for this tournament.
After suffering a complex anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee in September, he returned to HNK Hajduk Split on loan in January, 18 years after departing the club as a teenager, before making his long-awaited return, featuring after exactly 200 days on the sidelines during their Eternal derby defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Croatian Cup semi-final on 3 April.
Zlatko Dalić will be hoping Perišić can remain fit between now and the end of the season because, if he does, he’ll be a key figure at the Euros.
