2024 New Zealand Darts Masters – The Favourites
We highlight three players that hold an excellent chance of landing the 2024 New Zealand Darts Masters.
Luke Humphries - 2/1
Luke Humphries will be looking to right the wrongs of his trip Down Under so far in August.
The world number one and reigning world champion was stung in the quarter-finals of the Australian Darts Masters by a rampant Dimitri van den Bergh, and heads to Hamilton looking to underline his spot as the world’s best dartist.
He opens up against Kayden Milne this time, and is on a collision course with Michael Smith in the quarter-finals if they both advance unscathed.
Luke Littler - 9/4
You could argue that Luke Littler received the first humbling of his career in the final of the Australian Darts Masters last weekend.
The 17-year-old was smashed 8-1 by Gerwyn Price in the final, not giving Luke “The Nuke” a sniff of another title on the PDC Tour.
Littler is still a massive threat coming into this week, and like his namesake Luke Humphries, will feel like he has a lot to prove in Hamilton.
An easy opener against Jonny Tata paves the way for a repeat of last week’s semi-final clash between Littler and van den Bergh – an argument that Littler won 7-6 by the skin of his teeth.
Gerwyn Price - 7/2
Gerwyn Price raced through the field last week to win an unlikely Australian Darts Masters title by dropping just 13 legs!
The Welshman took the scalps of Damon Heta, Peter Wright and Luke Littler to seal the title and will arrive in New Zealand full of Welsh beans.
Form and momentum is everything in darts, meaning a 7/2 price for Gerwyn to repeat this feat looks like a tempting punt.
He’s opening his tournament against Ben Robb and once again finds himself in the favourable half of the draw…
2024 New Zealand Darts Masters – Best Tips
Check out our 2024 New Zealand Darts Masters betting tips below.
Luke Littler to beat Jonny Tata 6-0
We saw just the one 6-0 opening rounder last week as Damon Heta swept John Hurring, but we’re expecting some more in New Zealand.
Combined, the losing first-round players won 14 legs from a possible 48 in Wollongong, and we’re backing Luke Littler to best illustrate the gulf between the seeds and the unseeded.
A 6-0 against the unheralded Jonny Tata looks a good pick at 5/1.
Haupai Puha to beat Rob Cross
It’s the rematch nobody asked for but we are getting anyway…
Haupai Puha was the only player to push a seed in the opening round last week, averaging a respectable 87 in a 6-5 loss to Rob Cross.
Cross was eliminated in the next round to Peter Wright and doesn’t appear to be in the best form despite a solid start to 2024.
Puha will smell blood here and if he can get an early break against “Voltage” then this 11/4 outright pick could well come into play with the crowd on his side.
Dimitri van den Bergh to win the New Zealand Darts Masters
DvdB was just one dart away from beating both Luke Littler and Luke Humphries last weekend, and the Belgian’s form suggests that he could challenge for the title in Hamilton.
If – and it is a big IF – he can navigate the tricky top half of the draw, then he could well start favourite in the final against whoever wins their three matches…
It’s a punt, but 16/1 on a guy that has plenty of experience in winning big tournaments feels too good to pass in NZ.
