2025 PDC World Darts Championship – Favourites, Outsiders & Underdogs
Luke Littler - 15/8 to win the 2025 World Darts Championship
Since breaking onto the scene at last year’s tournament, Luke Littler has continued to pull up trees on the PDC circuit.
In 2024, no other player has won more tournaments than the “Nuke”, scooping the Premier League, Grand Slam, World Series of Darts Finals and multiple European Tour/World Series of Darts/Players Championship titles over the past 12 months.
He is playing with an assured arrogance on the oche, bagging nine-darters for fun and averaging some astronomical numbers in TV tournaments – up at 98.9 for the season.
He’ll have to navigate his way past the world number one, Luke Littler, before the final this year due to their seedings, but at 15/8 Littler starts as the favourite in north London.
Luke Humphries - 3/1 to win the 2025 World Darts Championship
Reigning world champion and world number one Luke Humphries has rarely disappointed in TV majors this year.
“Cool Hand” has bagged the Matchplay, World Championship Finals and World Cup in 2024, finishing as runner-up in the Premier League, UK Open and World Grand Prix.
He is the most consistent player on the tour and with 613 maximums this season, only Luke Litter (771) can boast more.
Humphries has some real experience in his quarter including Raymond van Barneveld, Peter Wright, James Wade and Stephen Bunting, but the 29-year-old will start as a strong favourite against any of them if/when they meet.
Gary Anderson - 9/1 to win the 2025 World Darts Championship
Hitting 99.66 across 1,016 legs in 2024, no one has a better three-dart average than former two-time world champion Gary Anderson.
“The Flying Scotsman” doesn’t pick up many majors these days in his 53rd year, but a more relaxed attitude to the sport seems to be bringing out some of his very best.
The Scot has fallen early in the last two years at the Ally Pally, but two semi-final runs in TV majors this season set him up well for a shot at doing what he did in 2015 & 2016 – winning the big one.
Michael van Gerwen - 10/1 to win the 2025 World Darts Championship
Despite dominating the sport for a number of years, MVG has only got three World Championships to his name.
That’s still more than everyone except Phil Taylor… but not as many as were being pencilled in circa 2012.
The Dutchman starts as third seed and fourth favourite this time around, and without a TV title to his name for the second time in four seasons (2021 & 2024) “Mighty Mike” will fear he’s lost that winning touch on the oche.
He usually turns up at the Worlds – on only two occasions since 2013 has van Gerwen not reached a quarter-final minimum, but this year he is on a collision course with Gary Anderson in the fourth round.
Michael Smith - 28/1 to win the 2025 World Darts Championship
Since winning his maiden World Championship at the start of 2023, Michael Smith’s form has dropped off.
“Bully Boy” has only bagged the World Cup of Darts since – alongside Luke Humphries – and has suffered plenty of early exits in TV majors.
The St. Helens thrower is still seeded second at the Ally Pally and will be a match for anyone, but doesn’t appear to have that killer instinct that saw him dominate at the back-end of 2022.
Gerwyn Price - 33/1 to win the 2025 World Darts Championship
Gerwyn Price’s post-World Championship form has been similar to Smith’s.
The Welshman won the 2021 title, but has struggled to build on it as many predicted he would.
2024 has been the worst season yet for the 39-year-old, not reaching a major TV quarter-final in eight attempts, and this was compounded with him not qualifying for the Grand Slam of Darts.
Price starts his 2025 campaign against either Kim Huybrechts or Keane Barry, and could have problems in the third round against Joe Cullen or the in-form Wessel Nijman.
Mike De Decker - 25/1 to win the 2025 World Darts Championship
28-year-old Mike De Decker made a splash winning the World Grand Prix this season, and with a quarter-final run at the Players Championship Finals also in his back pocked, the confidence of the Belgian player will be sky high.
He has bagged himself a 24th seed inside the Ally Pally and finds himself in a quarter alongside Stephen Bunting, Damon Heta and Dirk van Duijvenbode.
Only Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Michael Smith have thrown more 180s than De Decker in 2024 – if he can find the “red bit” consistently then he’ll know he can topple any of the field.
James Wade - 100/1 to win the 2025 World Darts Championship
James Wade hunt for a World Championship continues this year, reaching 4x semi-finals and 5x quarter-finals throughout his stellar career.
The “Machine” has won a solitary UK Open title since the start of the 2019 season, so his mega price of 100/1 to win the Worlds is understandable.
Wade can beat anyone on his day, but it’s pretty impossible to know when his ‘day’ will be.
A potential banana-skin awaits in the second round against the high-flying Jermaine Wattimena.
Dave Chisnall - 66/1 to win the 2025 World Darts Championship
“Chizzy” has shown plenty of glimpses in 2024 to suggest that a major TV title is coming his way sooner rather than never.
He is a former semi-finalist from 2021 here and a career of quarter-final and semi-final runs sets him up well for dealing with the big pressure moments that come alongside a World Championship.
He reached the quarter-finals last year and seeded sixth finds himself in a pretty nice section of the draw.
If MVG or Gary Anderson don’t turn up, then Chisnall could find himself in another semi-final.
2025 PDC World Darts Championship Tips
Check out our top tips for success at the Ally Pally over the festive season.
Luke Humphries to win the World Darts Championship
I guess this one can be filed into the “obvious” folder, considering Luke Humphries enters the doors of the Ally Pally as the reigning world champion and word number one.
But at a modest 3/1 with Paddy Power he is considered the second favourite to retain his title behind 15/8 Luke Littler.
These two are on a collision course to meet in the semi-finals this year and Humphries has often shown his class the deeper he gets into a tournament when the stakes are raised.
If he is to win through his quarter, Stephen Bunting (15/2 with Paddy Power to win the 1st Quarter) may prove to be his toughest test – the “Bullet” told us at freebets.com earlier this month that he has been practising with Humphries in the run up to this tournament.
Wessel Nijman to win the 3rd Quarter
If you’re looking for a dark horse then don’t look much further than Wessel Nijman.
The 24-year-old Dutchman pricked the ears of the PDC Tour at the Grand Slam of Darts, averaging 107, 105 and 111 in his three matches despite failing to pick up a single point.
Nijman won the 24th Players Championship title in Wigan this season and also made quarters and semis at the back-end of the season, meaning he arrives at his second World Championship as a man in form.
The two men priced shorter than Nijman to win the 3rd Quarter are Michael Smith (4/1 with Paddy Power) and Chris Dobey (9/2 with Paddy Power) – two guys struggling to find their best darts in 2024.
Ross Smith to throw the most tournament 180s
Only Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Michael Smith, Mike De Decker and Stephen Bunting have thrown more maximums then Ross Smith in 2024, and considering three of them are in the opposite half of the draw to Smith, the 19th seed will fancy a deep run this year.
Smith has edged up the rankings this season thanks to a semi-final run at the Players Championship Finals and quarter-final berth at the World Matchplay, and will be fancied to advance past the third round for the first time at the Worlds.
When “Smudger” is on form the 180s flow, and if some of the big seeds take each other out then he could sneak into the latter stages thanks to his heavy scoring.
