Should Peaty make it through the heats, he will race in the semi final on Saturday night for a place in Sunday evening’s final.

If things go to plan, then both should qualify for the final as the fastest two, and that means being side by side in the lane draw for that race, which should create a fantastic spectacle.

It would be a remarkable story, if Peaty was to land gold, and if he’s anywhere near his best, then he has a great chance to do that.
