The odds on Aston Villa to finish in the Premier League top four this season have massively shortened following Sunday afternoon’s triumph over Arsenal.
Unai Emery’s side have been in the top-four mix for much of 2023/24 but after Tottenham lost to Newcastle and Aston Villa beat Arsenal, the Midlands outfit are now 1/2 favourites in the Premier League top-four betting.
Unai Emery on Aston Villa’s objectives
Heading into the Arsenal clash, most neutral fans give Aston Villa little chance of securing a result against Mikel Arteta’s side at the Emirates Stadium.
Aston Villa have been weaker on the road this term, while Arsenal were unbeaten in 2024 and boasted the best defence in the division.
However, Aston Villa created plenty of chances on Sunday, while limiting the effectiveness of key Arsenal stars such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus. Post-match, Unai Emery spoke of the result giving his side confidence to go on and reach their objectives this season:
“These three points are the same like we played for last week against Brentford and we will play for against Bournemouth next week, but to get here three points is giving us confidence and power to prepare the next matches being motivated and excited to get our objective in Europe and the Premier League,” he said.
Aston Villa are currently only above 5th-place Tottenham by three points, meaning they cannot afford to drop any points in their remaining league games. The Villans’ next Premier League outing, as Emery mentioned, comes versus Bournemouth on April 21 and sees them head into the match as 3/4 favourites.
