3:40pm Catterick - Harmonia (Nap)
A head second on her nursery debut at Beverley last week, the David Evans-trained filly HARMONIA (Nap) has strong claims of going one better in this similar contest off the same mark of 58 and with little to fear from two of today’s rivals who finished behind the daughter of Time Test on that occasion, Amy Murphy’s top weight Beauhaather and Owt For Nowt from the Ollie Pears stable.
Well beaten on her first three starts, connections were clearly looking forward to running the filly in handicaps over this longer trip and off a potentially favourable rating. Harmonia just failed to repel the sustained challenge of Tim Easterby’s Law Degree at Beverley but there were three lengths and more back to the rest of the field.
A repeat of that performance should be more than good enough for the selection to open her account in the hands of jockey P J McDonald, who has made an excellent start since recently returning from injury. Grant Tuer’s Shielas Well may be the one to follow Harmonia home.
4:10pm Catterick - My Honey B (Each-Way)
Having selected the Michael & David Easterby-trained MY HONEY B (Each-Way) for a race at Nottingham last week, the filly was a late withdrawal, presumably down to the ground (officially good) not being suitable. The going on this occasion looks certain to be on the fast side of good, similar to the conditions at Hamilton, Beverley and Nottingham 12 months ago when the daughter of Zoffany landed a hat-trick of wins over a period of two months.
The last of those three wins came off a mark of 65, 2lb higher than Billy Garritty’s mount has been allotted for this Class 6 handicap run over 7f. My Honey B looked to be hitting form on her most recent start when beaten a neck at Chester last month and gets the each-way vote ahead of John & Sean Quinn’s Sir Garfield, a close second at Redcar on Sunday after opening his account over course and distance two weeks ago on just his fifth career start. Sir Garfield is now a non-runner.
