Leeds vs Southampton

Leeds were among the favourites to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League at the beginning of the 2023/24 Championship campaign.

However, while the Whites spent a good chunk of the season in the top two, a poor run of form in the final month saw them slip down to 3rd in the league, with the recently promoted Ipswich Town earning a place in the top-flight ahead of them.

Despite their drop off in form, Leeds are still favourites to win at Wembley this weekend. The Peacocks took on Norwich City in the semi-finals of the play-offs earlier this month. They were held to a 0-0 draw in the first leg before going on to dominate the reverse fixture at Elland Road. When all was said and done, the Yorkshire outfit cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win on home soil.

As for Southampton, their push for automatic promotion ended slightly earlier than Leeds following a similarly bad run of results. However, the Saints will take solace in the fact that they have already beaten their upcoming opponents twice in 2023/24 - a 3-1 win on September 30, 2023 and a 2-1 victory on May 4 at Elland Road.

To book their place in the play-off final, Southampton, like Leeds, were held to a 0-0 draw versus West Brom in their first semi-final clash before going on to win the second leg on home soil via a 3-1 scoreline.
