Crawley v Crewe Tips: League Two Playoff Final Predictions
It’s not the League Two playoff final we were all expecting, as the two betting outsiders made it through the semi finals, and will meet at Wembley on Sunday.
Crawley take on Crewe, both coming here on the back of big wins, and with a place in League One at stake.
Check out my Crawley v Crewe tips and predictions for the game below.
Crawley v Crewe Match Preview
Big odds were available on both these clubs to earn promotion when the playoffs started, 5/1 on Crewe and 6/1 on Crawley, but both have made it to the final.
One game is in their way, win it, and League One football is coming.
Crawley are slight favourites and I think that’s fair, given how both sides got here. They played very well, yes MK Dons were poor, but Crawley were very good, and took their chances nicely.
Compare that to Crewe, who, in my opinion, played well for around 20-30 minutes across two legs, plus extra time in one of them.
Of course, you can argue Crewe did what they needed to, and took chances when they came, but overall, they didn’t play well for a lot of this tie.
Wembley will need to bring out the best in them, while for Crawley, just rinse and repeat their last two games, and they’ll go close here.
Crawley Road to the Final
Crawley had the giant task on paper of beating MK Dons, but made rather light work of it in the end. A 3-0 home win in the first leg gave them a grip on the tie, while instead of sitting back in the second game, they went out and won 5-1 on the night, 8-1 on aggregate, and recorded a remarkable result.
As expected, all the talk since those games has been about how MK Dons played badly and froze in the moment, but you have to give Crawley credit.
Scoring eight goals in two games, regardless of who it’s against, is a huge achievement and one that should not be overlooked.
Crewe Road to the Final
After a 2-0 home loss to Doncaster in the first leg, you could have forgiven Crewe for simply crumbling when they went away for the second leg.
But they didn’t two early goals and it was 2-2 on aggregate, and firmly game on.
No more goals came, the teams went to extra time and then penalties, which with the tired legs on show towards the end of the game, kind of looked inevitable from a long way out.
Crewe took that, and made the final when no one expected them to.
Crawley v Crewe Tips
I think Crawley can edge this one. Both sides took advantage of below par performances from their opponents in the semi finals, but Crawley played well themselves for large parts of both legs, and to kick things off, they’re my tip for the win, available at 11/10 with Betfred.
As for a correct score in the game, I think there’s plenty of value in a 2-0 win to Crawley, which is available at double figure odds, you can get 10/1 on this with Betfred.
