Despite Crewe being at home here, all betting sites have Doncaster down as favourites to win the first leg, and I can’t argue with that.
It’s down to the impression that Doncaster have created in recent weeks. Talked about as a potential side to be dragged into the relegation zone back in February, which would have taken them into the National League, they are now three games away from League One football next season.
10 wins in a row saw Doncaster climb the table quickly and with purpose, in total an 11 game unbeaten run, with a draw on the final day of the season.
Grant McCann has his team firing, no other team in any playoffs has the same kind of momentum and recent form behind them.
If you flip all of that positivity around, you get to the situation Crewe are in. Failing to win any of their last three, scoring just once in those games, and a wider record of just two wins from their last 12, it’s easy to see why fans are not too optimistic here.
For Doncaster, this just needs to be the next game in a long line of good performances, while Crewe need a clean slate, but that is not easy to find after such a bad run, despite the change of focus and pace.

I think Doncaster are some way ahead of Crewe here, and fancy them to win this game, and win the second leg, to book their place in the Wembley final.
Momentum is a huge advantage in the playoffs, Rovers have it, Crewe are falling the other way, and that will all be too much.

To begin my tips, I am backing Doncaster to win on the night here, I think even though they are away from home, they can get a win on the board, with 6/4 available with Betfair.
As for my correct score prediction, I do think this will be a tight game, so I will side with a 1-0 win to Doncaster at 8/1 with William Hill.
Lastly, Joe Ironside has delivered every time he has been asked this season, so I’ll take him to do it one more, and score the first goal in this game, available at 11/2 with Paddy Power.
