This is a clash between the present and past champions.
Somerset beat Essex in last year’s final at Edgbaston, while Northamptonshire were winners of this competition in 2013 and 2016. They were also runners-up in 2015, but they haven’t threatened since.
I just don’t see David Willey’s side winning this one. Somerset will prove to be too strong for them.
Ravi Bopara’s absence is a blow for the Steelbacks, with the veteran all-rounder suffering a finger injury whilst playing in a recent T10 competition in the Cayman Islands. Their young seamer Raphy Weatherall is also missing through a back stress fracture.
Out of the four quarter-finals, I’m most confident about a Somerset win than any other result.
Instead of taking the 7/12 on a straight Somerset win, I like bet365′s 5/4 - via a bet builder - on Somerset to win and hit most sixes in the match.
They have pipped Northamptonshire on sixes hit throughout the tournament.
I also like William Hill’s 85/40 Match Treble on Somerset to win, for them to hit the most sixes and for them to have the highest score at the fall of the first wicket in the respective innings.
Tom to remind England fans what he can do
I have a strong feeling for Tom Banton success in this match.
The Somerset opener is a bit the forgotten man of English limited overs cricket. The tall and powerful opener played 20 times for England between 2019 and 2022, and many would have had him down as a long-term option.
At 25, he’s still young enough to be so. But he has a point to prove.
And, to be fair to him, this summer, he’s making a start on that. His 440 runs so far leave him in the top five run-scorers in this season’s Blast, and he’s coming into this fixture on the back of scores of 73 and 46 in a County Championship win over Durham at the weekend.
I like Betfair’s 11/4 on him to score a fifty in the match.
Is Jack back?
Another man who is seemingly on the outer at present is Jack Leach, the left-arm spinner who helped Ben Stokes win that famous Headingley Test in 2019 but with bat rather than ball.
Leach has only played two Tests in the last 18 months because of back and knee injuries, but he’s fit again and in-form. He claimed 15 wickets in nine matches in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup, including a haul of 6-26, and has taken 17 wickets in two recent Championship matches.
Good form is coming at the right time given England’s October Test tour to Pakistan.
He hasn’t been a Blast regular for Somerset this season - five matches, six wickets - but he was in the side at the back end of end of the group stages. And given his recent form, I expect him to play at a Wantage Road ground where it has been known to turn.
Betfred are amongst the firms who have him at 5/1 to be Somerset’s top wicket-taker in the match, which I would be considering.
And finally, returning to Banton, I like bet365′s 10/1 on Banton to be Player of the Match.
